Discussion: RNC Rules Member Says Trump Can Win GOP Nom With 1,100 Delegates

[RNC spokesman Michael Short rebutted Evans, tweeting that the eventual nominee needs 1,237 delegates. “Period. No ands, ifs or buts,” he wrote.
Evans later clarified his remarks, telling a reporter that he wasn’t suggesting Trump would win the nomination outright with less than 1,237 delegates, but if he’s close enough the real estate mogul could gain enough unbound delegates to

Lowering the bar for the Donald? As if the bar to run for President as a Republican weren’t low enough to start with?

Cruz delegates and Trump delegates should just shoot it out with whatever firearms they choose. and the last one standing gets to nominate the candidate.

“He further warned that the math gets fuzzy.”

Fuzzy math is what Republicans do best.

…that Trump just needs 1,100 delegates to win the nomination…

OR

…he does not believe Trump will win the nomination automatically with 1,100 delegates…

Is this a story or a multiple choice test?

So basically this guy pulled an arbitrary number out of his ass, and that’s a news story? Blech.

I think Trump believes the nomination is his, and anything that gets in the way of that is going to mean a nasty floor fight over the nomination.

What would motivate the man to make such a statement?

Republicans have never been good at math. Arabic numerals scare them.

Evans was using the same math Paul Ryan uses to balance his budget.

Actually, Trump believes that the rules do not apply to him. This morning on MSNBC Trump’s Iowa Co-Chair Tana Goertz stated, “Its not about the rules . . .the rules don’t apply to him [Trump]. They only apply to everyone else.”

There is a new magic number of delegates that would allow GOP
frontrunner Donald Trump to secure the party’s nomination, at least
according to Republican National Committee official Randy Evans.
…
Magic numbers? The GOP deals in magic numbers?
Who knew?

Trump don’t need no stinkin’ rules!

weiiirrd how we routinely think of the same jokes. Well done. :grinning:

You kid, but I suggest to all on our side who may have any plans to go to Cleveland during the convention, DON’T. It’s gonna get ugly. As for me, it will be must watch drama from the comfort of home. I’ll have my popcorn ready!

From wikipedia:
Republican Party
The Republican Party utilizes a similar system with slightly different terminology,
employing pledged and unpledged delegates. Of the total 2,472 Republican
delegates, most are pledged delegates who, as with the Democratic
Party, are elected at the state or local level. To become the Republican
Party nominee, the candidate must win a simple majority of 1,237 of the
2,472 total delegates at the Republican National Convention.
…
This being the case why this magic number of 1100 delegates?
As I said up thread…“We don’t need no stinkin’ rules!!!”

But Trump is thinkin’ 1100 is close enough for gubbermint work.

Because it’s http://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/not-as-crazy-as-it-sounds

He’s not talking about the number by the rules that Trump needs to win, he’s discussing probable outcomes.

I’d suggest that Evans has a lot of money riding on:

  • number of punches thrown
  • pints of blood spilled
  • number of firearms smuggled into the convention venue
  • number of arrests

AND

  • number of deaths

Otherwise, there is no rational reason why anyone would give the Trumplettes any more reasons to get ginned up.
