Discussion: RNC Goes After Kaine On The Death Penalty Ahead Of VP Debate (VIDEO)

On the same day that this is published in the New York Times.
I swear, you cannot make this shipoopie up.

The video references Lem Tuggle, who Kaine defended against rape and murder charges as a young lawyer and who was eventually executed, as well as Richard Lee Whitley, who was executed despite what the Richmond Times-Dispatch described as “about 1,000 hours of largely free legal work” on Kaine’s part.

Soooo, they are going to go after him for doing what’s stated in the constitution? That everyone has a right to a fair trial? And for doing pro bono work? Seriously?

Due process is a Chinese hoax!!!

This is truly an attack on Christianity, since Tim Kaine’s opposition to the death penalty is because of his Catholic faith.

If that isn’t the response from Democratic surrogates, they’re falling down on the job.

haha! Or as Donald Trump calls it…Shina! :grinning:

Kaine followed the law & oversaw 11 executions as governor,

Pence has overseen no executions as governor - but numerous people are currently on death row

What is going on here Pence? and don’t try to blame others - you had no problem getting that discriminatory Hate law enacted -

These are the people who scream about the Constitution. Shaking my head. I guess we need a revised “To Kill a Mockingbird” in which Atticus Finch defends a guy who happens to be guilty, because that’s how things are done in a society that respects its founding document. I doubt this will do much harm but it isn’t just intellectually incoherent and it isn’t just hypocritical; it’s very pernicious. In a criminal justice system that can take your property, your freedom, and your life, your rights must must must be respected. Monkey with that and you can bring everything crashing down. There aren’t words ugly enough to express the contempt these people deserve.

Kaine provided defense legal services to people who were entitled to them. Full stop. Do they not understand the basics of our legal system? This is all the RNC has because they don’t have answers or solutions, all they have is misinformation and lies.

Wanna guess why they’re really focusing on Lem Tuggle? Here’s a photo of him:

Now, answer my question (and never mind your silly facts…the answer is exactly what you think it is).

Short answer–no they do not understand. When Trump suggested that a terrorism suspect shouldn’t get food or medical care, that’s exactly what a sizable percentage of America wants.

Sure they do. The legal system is that thing that was put in place for taking black voters off the streets and the registration rolls, right?

"Just start with Pence’s track record on the subject. Ask him whether its right to have condemned men languish while someone like Pence dawdles (sp) with their fate.’

Ask if it’s right to condemn the mentally incompetent to death.

Ask him if those in the criminal system deserve competent representation.

Then bring up Trump’s love for the death penalty

Excellent Response!!

I know I shouldn’t do this, but reminder: Pence denied a man who has been proved innocent a pardon - because justice. You decide. http://ijr.com/2016/10/705799-mike-pence-denies-pardon-request-to-man-exonerated-by-dna-evidence-because-of-the-process/

Amendment VI

In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the state and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the assistance of counsel for his defense.

The Constitution says ***the accused*** have a right to an attorney. But since black people ***are already guilty*** at the time of arrest the Constitution doesn't guarantee them counsel. See?

Can’t get the drugs? Can’t get the legislature to decide on an alternative measure? The religious posse Pence so thoughtfully used in his photo op when signing IN RFRA wouldn’t let him, who knows.

“Mere factual innocence is no reason not to carry out a death sentence properly reached.”

Pence is just holding the line of the…departed Scalia.

Yet another set of people who aren’t actually clear on what a “defense attorney” does.

Trump: Only a loser works for free. No wonder he’s a Democrat. He couldn’t get a real job as a lawyer. Sad!
