"There is no place in our party or our country for comments that disparage those who have served honorably.”

Agreed. The next time any Republican disparages any gay, lesbian, bi or trans service member, I’d like to hear you guys say this. Thank you.

How about the next time they refuse to fix the VA or properly fund it? Does that work too?

By all means! As a pretty far left progressive, I am appalled and deeply saddened the way our veterans are treated – and the way in which the armed forces seem to have little regard with how they expose service members to all sorts of toxins, poisons and shit. These folks did not sign up to be abused or unknowing guinea pigs.

In any society, nation, alliance, organization, etc., I judge them in large part by how well they value their individuals, how they treat them, how they take care of them and for them. It is only right.

The RNC says there is no place in the GOP for the likes of Trump. Yet Trump leads many polls of likely GOP primary voters. Trump IS the GOP. Tough to square what the RNC is saying.

Aww… Did one of your monsters break free and rampage through the town?

You built him, you own him (and his mouth).

I would like to believe there are some within the GOP ranks who really do believe this. Though I am not registered as a Democrat, I tend to vote (nearly always) for Democrats come election time. I can only imagine how difficult it must have been to be a Democrat back in the '70s, say, and still have a small–but consistent and loud–number of Dixiecrats. Eventually, the Democratic Party was able to rid itself of the vast majority of those folks, through death or they switched parties to where they felt more comfy. I think the Republican Party might be starting that long process for themselves. Maybe the new outcasts will start to form a real (small) third party. That would be interesting for our political system.

All of that said, I don’t see the Republican Party getting any real hold on those folks for at least a decade or more. More power to those in the GOP who really desire to better themselves and not divide us up with those nasty racial and homophobic and anti-science wedge issues. I’m not going to hold my breath, though.

This support is sure to get McCain feeling all mushy – Welcomed back into the fold – I wonder if he’ll turn “the maverick” back on ? ?

Rinse Pubics and the rest of the GOP are simply getting what they have been nurturing for the last decade or so. The time to nip this kind of crap was long ago and now that tRump is at the top of the KKKlown Kar polls they don’t know what to do. And the GOP pushed any moderates out of their ranks so there are no adults left to steer the ship.

GOP has huge problem - Trump is not going to behave with any sense of decorum - is not going to back off - not going to apologize - he is going to keep feeding the rabid faction that he is cultivating - and that faction does not care about McCain - in fact they rather like that Trump takes a shot at the old man. Trump is figuring that he can go a long, long way in this contest on the back of this rabid faction - all he needs is a strong plurality - and with a field of 18-20 … if he could get to having a polling figure of 20-22 % it could put him in the lead - head & shoulders ahead of the pack …

And once they have served as cannon fodder for the MIC, they are left to die, no healthcare (that is effective until after you die), no money, that would be socialist. I need to stop…

Yup. Think the RNC will issue a long overdue apology to John Kerry now? Not holding my breath.

And yet most military people are Republicans…when I go to the VA with my husband FOX News is playing in almost every waiting room. And the anti-obama talk is everywhere, especially in the geezer population…they are appallingly clueless (and infuriating!).

In other news, Reince Priibus would like to have his cake and eat it too.

Make up your mind, Reince. Stop enabling the constant stream of disparaging comments coming from your party or stop complaining. You can’t have it both ways.

Are they really this ignorant of their own base OR are they trying to hand the nomination to The Donald?

My good neighbor in Cville, I could not agree with you more. A good family friend is a die-hard Republican (though she really seems to genuinely love me, a gay man who is agnostic – and not the least bit afraid to be who I am) but she swears that FOX Entertainment is the only place she is able to get the truth. I’ve long since given up attempting to explain it to her. Her feelings about the military, etc., are no different than you’ve said here. I think it is puzzling to her that I am such a supporter of our veterans and decry how they are treated once they come home, etc. – yet she’s the first to bitch about waste and fraud in our social services and safety nets. Do I need to add that she and her husband are retired and on Social Security. Also, her husband’s benefits from retirement are largely due to … union-negotiated benefits. Don’t misunderstand – I love her but her perception(s) of reality are baffling to me and very frustrating.
