Discussion: Riots Challenge Police Response

Discussion for article #235740

You know what’s really disruptive to a community?

Killing people who live there.

Riots are certainly not the answer, but the police need to be more forthcoming about what actually happened. It looks for all the world like they collared the victim and subjected him to a nickle ride.

“Hours before the riots began Monday, mourners filled the 2,500-capacity New Shiloh Baptist church to attend Freddie Gray’s funeral.”

Just wondering… were the police out in riot gear during the funeral, was the police presence heavy during the funeral, or did they show restraint until the demonstrations became overpowering?
I’m trying to get a sense of how/why the rioting started, besides folks demonstrating against a cruel death at the hands of police. Because I really don’t appreciate looting and mayhem destroying your community just for the sake of looting and mayhem. That’s pointless, senseless, maddening, just like the death which set it off.
