“Night of the Long Knives, Maricopa-Style”
Instilling purity to the diminishing point. How righteous they will feel as they look around their phone booth meeting room.
Everyone do the fascism dance!
Toeing the party line is so important to Republicans—just as it was/is to fascists, communists, and other totalitarian political parties that the GOP models itself on.
Huh. Maricopa County is truly a dingleberry on the ass of Amurika.
They have to…demographics are slowly outnumbering them. They either consolidate and prevent and punish any defection by heretics and traitors or they get overwhelmed all the faster.
Eventually there will be five ancient geezers sitting around a table claiming they’re the only “pure” conservatives.
That day can’t come soon enough.
I was about to say the very same thing.
Purges are not a good way to go.
BTW, Maricopa County is Phoenix and the surrounding area.
It is the county that gifted the conservatives’ demographic-shifts-race-freakout with Joe Arpaio. That says enough about it for me.
The inevitability of demographics is going to be so sweet. GOP only has about 10 more years and its over. They won’t have enough white people who believe in their racism.
Vintage McCarthyism - all you need to be is “accused” and action is taken against you - you may plead your case but the rulers will decide your worthiness.
oh yeah… purges of membership are certainly an awesome display of your party’s embrace of democracy… hope it spreads…
Yes, the Arizona GOP is somewhat extreme and the Tea Party types have taken over. But I don’t see the problem with this. When you work for Coke, you don’t drink Pepsi and vice versa. These are elected party officials, even if they are at the lowest level they are still elected party officials (precinct committeepeople). They can vote a straight Democratic ticket if they like, nobody will ever know, but they shouldn’t go public about it or else they risk being kicked out of the party offices. If they want to be free agents, that’s fine. Then don’t become an elected party official.
At one time I was a precinct committeeman for the Democratic party. One of the reasons I declined to run again was that I did not feel comfortable with being obligated to toe the party line on every issue and every candidate.
If you believed that the Democratic Party was an Islamofascist cell whose members are sworn to turn Christian America into a Godless anti-Constitutional Muslim socialist colony of Kenya, you’d be outraged at theses RINO traitors, too.
No, it’s not. Certain parts of it are the dingleberry on the ass of our state, that’s for sure.
Phoenix itself - about half the metro area’s population and 45% or so of the county’s population - leans blue. We have had at least three consecutive center-left mayors (the mayoral and council elections are officially non-partisan but informed voters know which way the candidates lean). The current mayor, Greg Stanton, is very progressive and fully supports marriage equality and LGBT rights.
It’s the surrounding suburbs that mostly lean right, outside of Tempe where Arizona State University (fork 'em Devils) is located. Some of these suburbs like Mesa and Glendale lean far to the right.
The state legislative districts are rather gerrymandered so that the GOP enjoys a near-supermajority or supermajority most of the time. The majority of the county is represented by Republicans in Congress, but in fact Arizona’s House delegation is majority (5-4) Democratic.
This ain’t Massachusetts but it ain’t South Carolina either.
To update the famous quote: “When Fascism comes to America it will come wearing a Tri-Corner Hat and Wrapped in Corporate Sponsorship.”
All hail the Tea-Baggers!
Seig Heil!
if I were the GOP gubernatorial candidate, I’d probably be pretty pissed too if some of the lowest party officials were endorsing my opponent. However they probably would have been smarter to shut up about it and wait until after the election for the purge. I would wager 99% of folks never knew about these endorsements for DuVal until LaFaro made news of it by deciding on a purge. Now they have handed the DuVal campaign a great ad.
“We are in the process of trying to identify any Republican PCs who are endorsing and supporting Non-Republicans, and will be removing their voting rights and censuring them in accordance to the 2014 MCRC Bylaws.”
Correct me if I am misinterpreting what is being said here but can a county republican committee remove somebody’s right to vote?? That’s just a bit presumptuous.
