Wanna bet he would have done the same thing if Blue counties were hit?
These changes are, of course, strictly non-partisan. I mean Rick Scott has always been a fervent apostle of good government.
And sound medicare billing practices…
If it were Pinellas or any other blue county, he definitely would not have. In fact, he’d have restricted the poll hours or something, “due to the emergency.”
Sounds like the right call, but I’m certain it was made for the entirely wrong reason.
It is the right call, however, I don;t think it is a two-way street…
What are the odds the counties are red? What an incredible coincidence! Smh
Just a thought, but it shouldn’t take a natural disaster to make voting easier (regardless of the political leaning)…
This is the right thing. Everyone should get to vote. Sadly, I think you are 100% correct that they would have found a way to say it was unnecessary if it were in a blue portion of the state.
This is exactly my view.
More people who have the right to vote will have the opportunity to vote. Good. It might hurt “my team”. Oh well. He wouldn’t do it if those counties were blue. Nope, probably not.

Two words that will sink Rick Scott
Red Tide
…and its not the kind he wants to see
Definitely, assuming that the list of counties given a break is exactly the same as the list of counties declared “disaster areas.”
The hurricane is going to suppress votes from that area even with the eased voting rules.
Democrats should investigate whether any of the rules that Scott relaxed were originally put in place with the claim that they would reduce voting fraud. If any were, Democrats should henceforth make use of the fact that, in the wake of a hurricane, a GOP governor understood that it would be wrong to impose security measures that might prevent a tiny number of fraudulent votes at most if those measures would reduce ballot access for tens of thousands of people.
Still having a hard time feeling sorry for people who’ve been electing the politicians who made the policies that contributed to the growth of Michael when it passed over warm water, and hit communities destroyed by their environmental policies, while blowing away buildings that should have been built to more stringent standards.
Yep, those are the ones who deserve to vote.
Hurricane Michael roared ashore
lol.
I’m not if TPM is reading this right. Although the Panhandle is quite red it’s bluest parts are it’s beaches. The Beaches are where these rule changes are likely to have their greatest effect. I’m not sure this wan’t a CYA affair. Had he not done it there would have been an uproar that could cause the GOP problems in the future. Problems are a problem because they have to be fixed and there’s a good chance the next Gov. here ( the next fixer ) is going to be a progressive Democrat. If Scott didn’t remedy the mess bad weather has on voting that Progressive surly would. No way Scott wants that.

Rick Scott has always been a fervent a̶p̶o̶s̶t̶l̶e̶ apostate of good government…
FTFY…
