So Green got on the record as his attorney finally and now he’s fired.
What the fuck is going on with Gates I wonder.

The lawyers are running from him like he was radioactive. I find it rather extraordinary.
I know he fired Green but there has to be something going on with him that he keeps going through different representation. And his first set of lawyers really wanted off the record badly.
I’m thinking he’s firing lawyers until he can find someone who’ll tell him what he wants to hear. Everyone keeps telling him to cooperate or die in prison, and he keeps telling them he can beat the charge in court. He’s Hanover Fist, he’s got an angle.
Many legal scholars are saying a pardon from Dotard would be all but worthless because the Cockholster would be using it to conceal his own crimes. It’d be quickly challenged, they say, and the likelihood of it surviving a legal challenge are slim to none.
He is not a king.

I agree. I think that’s what is going on. Green was hired I thought to facilitate a plea. I am not sure what Gates is holding out for, but I agree that’s the most likely scenario.

Not to quibble with the reporters and their writing, but a Superseding Indictment would be if Mueller had filed a new indictment in the DC case with the old and the new counts. As the other TPM article and the Editor’s blog post pointed out, Manafort and Gates forced Mueller to file a totally separate new indictment in the EDVa. So it is not a superseding.
Also, it looks like the Daily Beast article was, to paraphrase Mark Twain, greatly exaggerated.
Threats and promises from Trump. Pressure from his family. Terror of financial ruin as whatever assets he has available dry up to pay lawyers who are demanding big upfront retainers. Paranoia that he’s going to be the patsy rather than pardoned. Paranoia that some polonium 210 or botulinum toxin or thallium might somehow find it’s way into his Fresca before this is over with.
Oh, and here’s a new one that just occurred to me after reading that indictment: dawning awareness that a presidential pardon isn’t going to save him from a civil asset forfeiture proceeding and that accepting a pardon will constitute an admission of guilt that will make it impossible for him to deny the allegations the forfeiture proceeding is based upon.
Just guessing. Guessing that all of these things mean he hasn’t had a decent night’s sleep in weeks, that he’s suffering from frequent panic attacks and that his blood pressure has been continually elevated since the FBI first came to ask a few questions and it’s only getting worse.
Seems likely, he’s not really at his best right now. Poor guy.
And yet the reporter stood by it. Seems to be a lot of calculated leaking with this defendant, but to what end, I can’t figure.

Right. Notice that the indictment emphasizes that they will be pursuing forfeiture of all ill-gotten gains, and if any of the ill-gotten gains are gone, the indictees legitimate wealth and income will be invaded to make up the difference.
ABC News says that Tom Green as been formally retained. So this report goes out the window.

Look, on one side there are Russian oligarchs who are promising to have him sliced up into sandwich sized pieces if he talks, and on the other side he is looking at the end of life as he knows it with a prison sentence past 60. He wants someone to negotiate a deal with no prison time and entry into the witness protection program. He has yet to find the lawyer who can get him this deal because it doesn’t exist.
