“I am not sure that’s entirely true,” Jackson said.
“I’m not either,” Downing conceded.
“So, Guilty then?” Jackson queried.

Clear as mud. Is there a lawyer in the house?

I thought the same. Help!

Why would Gates file something himself asking the court to delay any decision wrt his attorneys request to withdraw?

I heard it’s because they won’t pay $130,000 to his mistress out of their own pockets.

As clear as a 28-letter word for dog on Uposcrabblenyk.

Just speculation but Gates has seemed pretty contemptuous of the court in general and specifically the case against him. For some reason, he acts like his ass is covered no matter what or he is above the law.

I am guessing his council have been trying to reign him in and he just won’t behave.

Hopefully his arrogance will doom him to a long sentence.

There’s been informed speculation both that there’s a real problem between Gates and his lawyers—the truthfulness of his testimony, maybe, or a problem with payment—and also that maybe he’s interested in cooperating and needs negotiators more than defense specialists. I didn’t read anything in the piece that would seem to point one way or the other, but our actual lawyers have a better nose for such things obviously.

Would not discount - for even a nanosecond - the idea that Rick Gates - even though he appears to on his own - is one of several RODEO CLOWNS assigned to run around like goofy idiots disrupting, contaminating, confusing, delaying - and if possible - destroying the investigation process and maybe even rendering potent prosecution moot as a result of the mess of entanglements.

This guys title seems to have escalated somewhat to Hot Potato.
Boil till tender and then mash him up.

It’s interesting that the new big-dog plea-expert lawyer is still not officially onboard.

Is there an official speculation that maybe he’s just a huge douche who’s impossible to work with? If not it might be wise to add it to the list.

Whatever is going on between Gates and his lawyers, the lawyers can’t talk about it because it’s privileged. Unless Gates waives attorney-client privilege, we’ll never know what this is about. One thing that is often an issue with substitution of counsel is the delay it causes for new counsel to get up to speed. Judges are sometimes reluctant to grant substitutions when they come late in the game, but that does not seem to be an issue here. The strangest part of this is Gates’ pro se communication with the judge, apparently asking that his current legal team not be allowed to withdraw. One would assume that if he had hired a new lawyer, he would be all for the former lawyers being relieved as counsel of record.

Thomas Green is apparently an old hand at this, and he has probably taken a good look at Gates and his media stunts, maybe he has decided to let this particular client pass ?

My hunch is that Gates is not cooperating with rational counsel and may not be willing to be truthful. Because he knows the fix is in, a pardon is coming or Mueller is fired and all charges dropped. Certainly Gates’ motives are not honorabe.

Dear Editor, we have a little problem with the fifth to last 'graph. Missing a verb, methinks.

I have been getting that impression, it is something he shares with Manafort smarminess. It feels past the point of flipping, this appears more like petty stalling or non payment issues. Good advise for Gates would be to at least try to act humble.

So they did hold most of the hearings on this in camera.

This is apparently not so straightforward as it looked like it could be at the start.

Andres noted that there other investigations under Mueller’s probe besides Manafort and Gates’ case. Andres said that they were reviewing those files, making discovery an ongoing process.

WOW! It sounds like the Trumpets who have been insisting on extreme vetting are getting vetted extremely. Or bigly, as the case may be. These folk weren’t vetted at all when they were hired by 45, so now they have to be subjected to vetting double duty to make up for lost time. And any errors that may have occurred.

It may be that Gates is grappling with a prisoner’s dilemma compounded by the question of whether or not a Trump pardon is available. A lot to try to work through with at least one solution likely to present problems for one attorney set or the other; e.g., the plea-expert lawyer may be trying to decide too.
