Discussion: Richard Haass: Restaurant Booting Sanders 'Violates Spirit' Of Civil Rights Act

Ooh Chinese water torture.

For my part, give me the lyrical (schmaltzy?) Shostokovich or give me death.

Yeah, and their sense of entitlement (just because they are right-wing whites) and their sense of victimhood are no doubt two sides of the same coin.

Minor editing suggestion.

Yes. Exhausting.

Of course she should be protected by the civil rights laws.

I mean, it’s not like she’s a homosexual ordering a cake. (snark intended)

I’m sure it’s a coincidence (OR IS IT???) that Spike Jones and Michael Cohen have been known to dress similarly:

Is that a new diet you’re attempting?

This was a matter that was voted on by her staff, several of whom are gay, and the owner delivered the verdict. The owner was also out all the money that table of eight would have generated. So there was an economic hit. The rest of the party was welcomed to stay but also chose to leave. Kudos to the owner for standing up to someone who lies and bullies the press every single day.

Now with Trump’s tweet this morning about it being dirty (dude, Mar a Lago has been cited for health code violations), I’m more worried one of his whackadoodles will do something to the restaurant, ala the yahoo who showed up at Comet Ping Pong with an assault rifle.

I, for one, would exclude Ms Sanders on religious grounds (she offends my concept of Christianity and the real teachings of Jesus Christ). I would cite Hobby-Lobby as precedent. That should keep the Supremes and Fox News tied up in cognitive dissonance for 10 or 15 minutes…

Well, I don’t know about its spirit, but here is its soul:

It’s valid. If you have a moral objection based on your own personal belief set the SCOTUS has said that that personal belief set rules so you have a valid objection and so does everyone else who is morally opposed to this administration.

All people have a right to be served in public accommodations.

It is remarkable to be having this conversation in 2018 in a center-left blog where many (most?) people are against this basic civil right.

No. Discrimination for whatever reason is not discrimination. That’s why “We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone” and “No shoes no shirt no service” signs can exist.

We identify certain types of discrimination as worthy of being prohibited, because that serves as a means to ameliorate negative social effects that have historically disadvantaged some segments of our society. Our discrimination laws are limited to certain protected classes, but dour wealthy white women with high paying White House jobs are not a protected class.

“If you’re a liberal who thinks denying service because of political beliefs is okay, then don’t be surprised when you’re kicked out of a restaurant by a conservative owner who does not share your beliefs.”

Liberals have already experienced this kind of reaction from knuckle-dragging mouth breathing conservatards. Still, no law was violated. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/16/arizona-gun-obama_n_2145125.html

No. I just don’t go out to eat very much. “Most of the time, I don’t have much fun. The rest of the time, I don’t have any fun at all.”

Yep. It wasn’t the Left that wore t-shirts to Rump’s rallies that said “F*ck Your Feelings.”

This is the road they chose to take the country down. Now it’s too late.

O so behind the times. That used to happen every day at Goff’s Hamburgers in Dallas starting in the 60s. Male, long hair - no service no politeness about it.

Try another one - that excuse is worthless.
