Collins doesn’t live in Maine either. She lives in Washington D.C. and only visits the state when it suits her.
Collins added in another interview that she hopes a “silver lining” from the vicious confirmation process will be that “more women will press charges” when they are assaulted.
She’s just trolling us now.
Maybe she literally wants more of them to come out and press charges so she can keep disbelieving and ignoring them. Maybe this wasn’t a political calculation and she just enjoys doing it for its own sake.
She is trolling not only the left but sexual assault survivors, and all women who care for that matter.
Maine needs to find a Democrat who lives there and can actually run a campaign. How hard is that?
Definitely, Mainers are incredibly distrustful of out-of-staters (flatlanders, we call them). I had high hopes for the 2014 election to get LePage out of office, but Michael Bloomberg had to pour in massive funding in support of a gun control ballot issue. That out-of-state money was enough to both (a) sink the gun control ballot issue and (b) bring out the Republican voters to give LePage four more years.
Still, Rice might be popular enough in ME-01 to win over the skeptics in ME-02. I’m never voting for Collins again (and I, like a lot of people in my part of the state, have always voted for her).
B) LePage is not running as he is term limited out.
He was in 2014, which is what the reference to LePage was actually about. I’m a Mainer, well aware of the caliber of Republicans our state has been turning out these past 10 years.
Rice needs to put her considerable credentials elsewhere. Unless what we are witnessing is the nationalization of all state politics.
“As far as Susan Rice is concerned, her family has a home in Maine, but she doesn’t live in the state of Maine,” Collins said. “Everybody knows that.”
okies, she’s thinking bout running in '20.
‘Good luck’ and stuff, but…yea
Yeah Colorado says the same thing.
If this is so true why is Collins so scared of Rice?
She hasn’t resided in Maine for 30 years.
They can do that but they never cared. They’ve elected Collins more than once and she doen’t live there.
KY couldn’t be more distrustful of outsiders and yet neither our govenor or senators were born here, two of which only moved here as adults.
Yeah I think they make exceptions for “their” outsiders. And we make exceptions for ours.
Ya, but she looks like she’s from Maine. Her dark complexion looks Mediterranean, and Maine is filled with Frenchies. She fits right it.
Lived in ME most of my life… never heard anyone refer to anyone as a flatlander (heard it up in VT, though…). I always heard “from away”, at least the ones that weren’t referred to as Massholes.
My recollection was that in 2014 LePage benefitted from a referendum on bear hunting that would ban the use of baiting and tracking with dogs. People said at the time that this would be a boon to the R’s but out-of-state animal activists pressed ahead with the effort.
The gun referendum (expanded background checks, etc.) was 2016 and narrowly was defeated, in the same year we passed marijuana legalization.
As for Collins’ opponents, we have several ‘local’ well-thought-of Dems run (Tom Allen, Chellie Pingree, Joe Brennan) without coming within spitting distance. I’m not opposed to an ‘outside’ high visibility candidate.
And I voted for Snowe on occasion, but, man, I could never have stomached voting for Collins… How’d you do it?
She should talk to Rick Lazio…
