Alf Landon? Like, a cross between an Alien Life Form and Little Joe Cartwright?

This demonstrates why the hard right is having such a time in Kansas this cycle. Moderate Republicans don’t want anything to do with them.

It really is unfair that Virginia gets 3 Senators.

Are you one of those guys who is opposed to AP History? Alf Landon is a former Kansas Governor who ran for President as a Republican in 1936. He was crushed by Roosevelt. His memory is actually beloved in Kansas.

Totally shows what’s wrong with politics. She is not withholding her support based on any principle other than “why wouldn’t he do that for Bob?” In other words, if you don’t support the powerful insiders, you are out. If you do, you are in. That’s all that matters.

i think she was just putting a personal spin on roberts’ extremism.

Elderly white Republican in name only.

She should be at her Congress Member’s town hall meetings, yelling (with neck-veins popped out) with outrage that Obama stole part of the doughnut hole from her Medicare Part D coverage.

And Roberts has turned hard right because they attacked him in the primary and he’s trying to keep them in the fold. A perfect storm.

Good for her. At least not so complicit in the fooling of America as McMorris-Rogers, Blackburn, Bachmann, Fischer, Palin, Collins and Murkowski.

Alf Landon and people like Jacob Javits after him, were Republicans from the progressive times of the populist movement, who confronted the robber barons and made lasting changes under TR and Taft and it all ended with Ike. The bottom of the pit since then.

I thought the only Moderate Republican was a Retired Republican.

However, Palin, McCain and Jeb Bush have been campaining for Roberts here.

Not that they’ll convince anyone to change their vote.

Her son is the treasurer for Rep Paul Davis’ campaign against Brownback. He served one term in the legislature, voted for more money for education and lost his primary (as a Republican) for re-election.

I bet they have a quorum.

Good for her…Wow! Alf Landon’s daughter! I was born way back in the Truman Admin. but I still picture the days of FDR and Alf Landon in blurry black and white (funny but I still picture the days of Eisenhower and Kennedy in black and white. Color comes in about the Nixon Admin…)

Because she is the kind of republican who doesn’t exist anymore and is still respected in the state, I would have liked to see a more robust personalized tone in her comments, such as “I was emotionally disappointed with Pat (although a bit clunky)” instead of the passive “there’s disappointment around the state.” She’s also the widow of another moderate republican we’ll never see the likes of again, Howard Baker.

Gawd I miss Nancy. Back then I didn’t have to be ashamed to be a Kansan.

That seems awfully petty of her. Refusing to help a colleague with a campaign over one vote in the UN just seems silly. The UN is not something most of us take seriously anyway.
