Discussion: Republicans Want To Take Another Whack At Obamacare In Tax Reform Bill

Nothing would make Trump happier than having a bill combining Tax Reform and Obamacare sitting on his desk as a cudgel to extort Congress into even greater cravenness than they’re showing currently.
In his mind, apparently such a thing is possible.

I know Cotton can’t open his mouth without lying, but just a reminder that if you can’t afford a policy the mandate doesn’t actually kick in with a penalty…

JFC can we stop calling this travesty “tax reform”. We, and everyone else not in the pay of the Koch brothers, must call it what it is: a giant give-away to richest.

For those who haven’t figured this out yet, Republicans will NEVER stop trying to repeal the ACA. Never.

Cotton. What a waste of seat time at a couple of prestigious universities. I know a guy who’s got a similarly good education, from famous schools, all that. And the SOB is a Holocaust denier. It’s not necessarily an intellectual problem that causes this stuff, or a lack of education. It’s more to do with emotions and worldview than any question of inherent ability or training. But JFC that Cotton’s just a loon.

Cotton’s office did not respond to TPM’s inquiry as to his source for that budget-saving estimate, but it appears to come from a 2011 report by the Congressional Budget Office that found the government would only save money because repealing the mandate would “substantially reduce the number of people with health insurance coverage.”

“Mr. President, I’m not saying we wouldn’t get our hair mussed. But I do say no more than ten to twenty million killed uninsured, tops. Uh, depending on the breaks.”

Because…why the fuck not.

The IRS already does not fine you if you cannot afford insurance. Affordability is defined in the ACA.

Cotton thinks this can pass.
Cotton also thinks that scraggy mess on his face is a beard.

This is actually good news. By combining two separate pieces of toxic legislation, this doubles the chances that it will not pass.

God almighty that thing—it looks more like one of those bee beards people do than an actual human beard. Stomach-turning.

Yes. Might be total grandstanding on his part. Wouldn’t be the first time.

Yeah you go boys…you have already screwed the American people with your proposed ‘tax bill’ and now you want to finish the job with taking away their HEALTH care? What a bunch of half assed cretins you are.

Which is why he’s inserting another provision in the tax bill that makes it illegal for anyone making less than $1 million/yr to read…

That’s what cracks me up. This thing was already going to fail, but they keep loading it up with more junk that’ll only guarantee its failure.

Damn it …

I can’t seem to figure out how to fast forward through these commercials —

make their insurance affordable and tailored towards their personal needs

Two incompatible concepts in health insurance.

Mocking Tom “Tall” Cotton is too easy. He doesn’t talk to the press because the media already and forever loves his conservative cred. He got all Repubs to sign that ridiculous anti-Iran statement and attend an anti-U.S. diatribe–in Congress!!-- by Bibi. Tom Cotton has been surfing that anti-establishment wave ever since. The New Maverick! No need for him to actually DO anything legislatively when he’s being written up frequently as an attractive 2020 presidential candidate!
