Discussion: Republicans Unsure Health Care Bill Can Pass Hours Before Vote

This bill is DOA in the Senate if it does pass the House and everyone there knows this. What difference does the House vote make other than give House Republicans a chance to either stand by or humiliate Paul Ryan?

Oh me of little faith. I was one who honestly believed repeal would pass both houses and be on Der Leader’s desk before inauguration. What I did not understand until recently is how the Trumpcare bill carries the seeds of Medicare and Medicaid destruction within it. Er… somethin’ like that. And we try to stay on top of this stuff thru the NYT, LAT and blogs.

My wife and I would be royally fucked without Medicare. My stepdaughter would be royally fucked without Obamacare because she has a life-threatening illness, could not get coverage until Obamacare.
Maybe I should get religion, go to a tent revival?

Now we gotta worry about SS. What’s a mother to do?

House GOP: Obama had a gift and he kept us united at all times. Trump is a Divider-In-Chief.

So, everybody believes all these clowns have deeply weird, diabolical plans that we try to divine. Here’s mine:

Paulie Boy has suspected that he can’t get the repeal through. As Speaker, second in line to the Oval Office, he yields a great deal of power, including certain positions on certain committees. In case of emergency, so to speak, he encourages a certain bumbling moron from California to traipse over the WH and (probably, most likely) reveals some classified info. The Bumbler carries out his orders.

Now, if the repeal vote fails or is pulled, the WH will be screaming all sorts of calumnies against Paulie Boy. What’s he to do? Well, he very well might can the Bumblr as the chairman of a certain committee, possibly (though maybe not likely) put the Ranking Member in charge and says, “Please proceed, Mr. Schiff.”

His own insurance policy (oh, the irony!) against what he knows is a dangerously stupid, incompetent (and more than likely) treasonous shithead.

Who says losing a vote means you’ve lost everything?

Related to another thread but fun anyway

@sonsofares It’s clear Paulie felt empowered to get behind losing legislation bolstering his base’s stoopids in the process knowing that President Obama would veto it. Now he actually has to deliver and has no Plan B.

“I’ve never seen this. People are refusing to talk to each other. They’re storming past each other. This is not good,” he told reporters. “There is bitterness within our conference that’s going to take time to heal.”

We need to get out of their way.

Meanwhile, a partial antidote to the craziness induced by Mr. Trump:

This whole thing is just an intra-squad scrimmage, not an actual adversarial negotiation. They can’t be “winners” although they will all declare victory and the media will report it that way. But they have ZERO political incentive to actually defeat each other because they all agree their real opponents are the Democrats. So while internally they are competing for pride or bragging rights at being the “first string” healthcare shortstop or center-fielder, they all continue to stay on the squad and they continue to draw a paycheck.

What is REALLY happening is like that famous scene in A Christmas Story where on the playground the elementary school kids “Triple-Dog-Dare” each other to touch their tongues to the frozen flagpole. But this is how Heir Drumpf sees the world. When a kid finally does it, you bet his tongue gets stuck there.

Which is exactly what will happen to any R who votes for this BS in the House or Senate. They will face a D ad saying “ voted to take healthcare away from 24 million Americans, including someone close to YOU!!”

The only question now is whether that ad says “voted to take” or “took” if the Rs ultimately pass it.

Hah that’s funny but Ryan will never work with a Democrat. He’s the ultimate privileged teenaged mean girl, and Democrats are uncool and also his Daddy didn’t like them.

I predict the TrumpRyan/AHCA will meet its demise during a floor vote on the House floor today. Thus,

I wonder if John Boehner is already well lit and celebrating his freedom?

The bill is dead. House GOP is telling Ryan to pull it from the floor. They don’t want the embarrassment and they don’t want to be ordered around by Trump. As Speaker, Ryan has to take that msg to Trump. It’s done. Ryan was willing to surrender his power as Speaker to accede to an order that the President has no power to issue. He should resign for failing to uphold institutional prerogatives. What Ryan ought to do now is start the impeachment process moving by replacing Nunes and cooperating with Schiff. More hearings will distract Trump from doing anything to him and then they can start positioning Pence to take over.

For real?

I’m going to love it more than I can say if the bill is dead, as you say.

Ryan looks so much better when he is frowning.

He’s probably laughing his behind off with Ryan’s performance in managing this delicate process or repealing and replacing, ObamaCare/ACA!

And you know what? I’m laughing my behind off at Ryan too! His failure on passing this bill has HUGE consequences for him!

Yes that’s what I’m reading. There’s no “uncertainty” about it. In the immortal words of Monty Python it’s dead, passed on, ceased to be, expired and gone to meet its maker, it’s a stiff, bereft of life, it rests in peace, pushing up the daisies…this is an ex-bill!
