Here comes again the GOP’s imaginary “identity politics” and they think they’re being smart. I know of no Dem congress members who won in 2018 because of their being female/minority.
My observation is that identity plays a greater role in presidential elections than in lower level elections.
Rep. Susan Brooks, R-Ind., recruitment chief for the National Republican Congressional Committee, the House GOP’s campaign arm, says more than 130 women have contacted the committee about running.
Let them each talk to Kevin McCarthy for an hour or two.

I wish them luck with their recruitment efforts given the negative effect on that recruiting of literally everything else they’ve done in the last 40 years.

They just want a few pliable girls and minority folk who can serve as proof that they’re open-minded. I’m sure that membership in the NRA and anti-abortion groups are a must, as well as a record of attendance at Trump rallies and ownership of at least one MAGA cap per family member and a pair of shorts that looks like a flag. Ignorance of issues is no bar to becoming a candidate as long as they agree Trump is the best ever. And, of course, they can’t be uppity.

That’s their problem in a nutshell. Sure, there may have actually been 130 women who’ve contacted them about potentially running, but how many of them are at all seemingly sane? How many of them aren’t hilariously obviously self-hating looney tunes whose presence on the national stage would do little more than exacerbate their current problems? Having women and black and brown faces in your party is a good thing, but not if they consist of a bunch of Sheriff Clarkes, Allen Wests, and Michelle Bachmanns.
