This might be the worst political blunder Iâve seen. Iâm mostly resolved to having a conservative Justice, but doubling down on BK is just hilariously awful. He gives Democrats a chance to fight, and letâs face it, if they had put up a Gorusch clone weâd be in the comment section complaining about how Democrats never fight.
BK is just everything wrong with white men(and I am one). Slimy, over privileged, and completely undeserving of everything offered him. If somebody didnât care about SC seats before him, they certainly will now.

Looks like refusing to grant Merrick Garland a hearing is coming back to bite them.
It goes beyond that for me, because I know there are the same sort of people on both sides of the aisle: People who view something like this as a variable in an equation of political calculus.
The counterpart on the Democratic side is the aide who is quietly celebrating because of how well Professor Ford is doing in the situation. Iâm not trying to make a false equivalency, but my disgust is less with the GOP machine who are so clearly displaying this lack of empathy, but that our government is hinged on a system where something like this is viewed as good for the Dems/Bad for the Republicans.
A terrible thing happened to a woman and because of the political process, she has bravely volunteered to make public that horrible experience, because itâs relevant, and all people seem to be able to think about is the political fallout. Itâs infuriating to me how much the larger issue of the fact that this happens every day to so many women, but is only a story when someone important does it, or it becomes a political issue for a partyâŚ

I turned on the teevee machine to take a look at the visuals. Saw a frightened but poised Blasey Ford, then saw Rachel Mitchell pull out maps of Montgomery Country to go at it like a typical prosecutor. I shut the whole thing down and resolved to only watch via TPM, Twitter and a few other sources to filter the shitshow for me. I am already incensed enough.
What we know so far about Ms. Ford and this process:

Iâm not bagging on those who are glad this is drawing attention to a serious issue. I believe thatâs a perspective that can be held simultaneously with empathy for Prof. Ford.
But I just know, somewhere, there are Dems tallying the successful âpolitical pointsâ this wins them in the game of beating the Republicans, and I view them as cretinous. Just because theyâre on my side doesnât make them any less of sociopaths than those GOP think-tanks members who are worried about how this is going to damage their brand going into the mid-terms.
