Note to democrats. Do not agree to any plan that cuts social security, even if it is part of a ‘grand bargain’ or if it is in exchange for a really good progressive policy. Even if it is just endorsing the framework of some bipartisam commishun.
If you think these Rove attacks are bad for just talking about it, think how nasty they will get if you vote for it. And if it passes. And the reality is your base will care a whole helluva lot if it passes.
Now it is hard to talk about how medicare advantage cost control measures don’t cut services, and how they reduce the pressure for cuts in the future. But it can be done, and do it.
Then get some carvillesque democratic rove antidote to go out and rail against the hypocritical lyin effin sacks o’ stuff for talking bout ‘out of control spending, out of control spending, debt, debt, debt’, and then when you do something smart about it they go all ‘cut cut cut.’ If they are gonna play chicken you gotta make em go over the cliff.
Well said. Blue Dogs should recall history. Jude Wanniski correctly predicted that GOPers would scapegoat Democrats for reigning in GOP spending.
