Discussion: Republicans Are About To Swipe A 'Blue' Electoral Vote In Nebraska

How odd - because just a few years back, the GOP was proposing to switch California to a Nebraska-like, proportional allocation system. Oh, well, must have changed their minds.

Considering that the GOP may never again elect a president, and the Senate will soon go blue, and the House probably not far behind (especially after the 2020 census and redistricting), why on earth would anyone want to paint themselves more red?

Maybe the bill should specify (to counterbalance the various ones proposed in bluer states) that Nebraska will go to winner-take all just as soon as a majority of electoral votes goes to proportional allocation.

Yes indeed…TEXAS-BASED GOP INTERESTS, mind you, were proposing to spend a bunch of money to change California’s system.

If it’s such a great fucking idea, why didn’t they do it in their home state of Texas first?

Is this an early indication of problems later…republicans out gunning and out maneuvering Democrats at the state and local level?

I’ve heard and read several criticisms of DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz and how she has failed to focus on the grassroots efforts in the states to make sure the Republicans don’t still another election.

Past DNC Chairs such as former Vermont Governor Howard Dean and his staff worked hard to build strong local election commissions to protect the integrity of the voting system. D W-S is not known for being that involved…more focused on Hillary and being a US Rep. from Florida. She apparently is above digging into the detail…and that could spell problems down stream in the general election.

Because apparently re-cutting the second district to increase the number of conservative white suburbanites in the 2010 redistricting just didn’t go far enough in preventing a repeat of 2008.

Thank god there are still men with the courage to fight democracy in America.

Nah, I’m sure they still want to do that in blue states. It’s red states they want to be winner-take-all.

Yet another play by the dying GOP to stay relevant.

I love the smell of desperation during election season.

Too make redistricting more equally proportioned, Dems will have to be elected as governors and legislators in the 2016 elections! This is a must and I do admire Hillary’s approach in helping and assisting Dems in the state and local races as she campaigns for the POTUS!

TPM:

Republicans always resisted the proportional system, since it enabled Democrats to make a presidential race competitive on a district-by-district level, Schimek said.

And yet they don’t resist it in blue states like Michigan, Pennsylvania, and California.

It’s almost like Republicans have a double-standard, as if they believe what’s good for the gander isn’t good for the goose. But that couldn’t possibly be true - Republicans always tell me they are fair and balanced.

I fear what they’ll do to lash out when an actual landslide loss is staring them in the face – knowing that once they go down they’re staying down for a long, long time.

Trapped critters being the most dangerous, etc…

Feel free to support any of your claims with legit sources, not someone else’s opinion but a source that shows she’s doesn’t support grassroot efforts, doesn’t work to protect the voting system, is uninvolved and is more focused on Hillary than doing her job at DNC.

TPM:

“You’ve got to be willing to cut that new trail. As that poet said, travel the road less traveled,” Chambers said.

Republicans Respond:

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And I’ve regretted it ever since.

Assholes. They know they can’t actually win with their ideas.

DWS is completely incompetent at every part of her job.

That includes organizing on the state level and on messaging at the national level. She sucks.

These “blue dots” are peppered all over the red states. You’ll find blue dots in Lawrence, KS; Tuscon, AZ; Norman, OK; Oxford, MS; Columbus, OH; Austin, TX etc…

What do all those places have in common? A major university, of course! An institution of higher learning! That should tell you all you need to know about Republican voters.

Republicanized that one for ya, chief. :smirk:

And Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin, Michigan, Virginia: it was clearly one of those model bills faxed out from DC to GOP state legislators, because having gerrymandered their congressional districts, they wanted to gerrymander the electoral college as well.

“When it comes to electing the President of the United States, the process should be consistent.”

I can’t think of anything more consistent than the National Popular Vote.
