"Anti-police violence organization Millions March NYC this morning began occupying City Hall Park in Downtown Manhattan, demanding NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton’s immediate resignation and an end to his signature Broken Windows policing.
“We’re not targets,” Millions March organizer Cleo Jeffryes told us last month,
when the occupation was announced. “We’re human beings. Bill Bratton is
a racist and a bigot who’s done so much to harm the black and brown
community.”
Bratton isn’t needed. Trump has already said all crime is ending on Day One (insert Hallelujah Chorus here) of his administraton.
I think this sounds really unfair, when he as chief in Los Angeles he always set a good tone and always emphasized the police’s obligation to the community. He never called out protestors or people with complaints and relations between the LAPD and minorities improved immensely (thought they started pretty low!).
I can understand why people would be upset with Broken Windows and data-driven policing and how they definitely have a heavier impact on minority communities but I’ve never seen any evidence that he is a “racist and a bigot” or that he sees any minority or protester as a “target.”
I thought the GOP were job creators. Now they’re going to put all criminals out of work which means we won’t have any need for the police and jails. Or is that all part of a smaller government?
Agreed. There was a time when he was considered the best commissioner in the country while serving under Mayor Giuliani. For a while he had rock star status and made the cover of Time magazine. But that didn’t sit well with the megalomaniac mayor, so he was forced out. The good old days.
Probably anticipating the riots in November by the Drumpf dead-enders…
