I’ve long been a fan of Joe Biden, but he needs to retire on top and not embarrass himself by running for a nomination he’s not going to get.
You might have seen the interview Biden had with Colbert in which he said he had doubts about what he’d do for several reasons including family concerns.
“No man or woman should run for president” without being able to promise voters that “you have my whole heart, my whole soul, my energy, and my passion.”
I took this to mean that he was saying no without actually saying no and for strategic reasons. He’s still grieving and seemed emotionally fragile and he knows a campaign requires the candidate to put his life and family on hold for the duration, and he didn’t seem to want to make that leap.
It always cracks me up when someone chimes in on what is a huge, ongoing national news story with some obvious question and then says, “I haven’t been watching the news lately” like whatever it is just happened that day. I guess it’s a reminder that there’s still so many Americans out there who can be educated and encouraged to vote Democratic.
We TPMers are a breed apart and we sometimes assume others are paying as much attention as we are. They’re not.
I saw the interview. Broke my heart in pieces. I think he knows he just doesn’t have it this time, but it’s got to be really, really tough for a long time public servant who truly loves to serve to walk away from what might have been his one big shot at the presidency. And grief is such a wild and horrific roller coaster. One minute you think you’re going to do all these great things in the name of your loved one, to make them proud, and an hour later the pain is so intense you think you might be having a heart attack.
LOL So very true. I will sometimes turn to a friend and say something about a big national news story, and that person will look back at me like I’m speaking Swahili.
The depth of your emotional state came through in what you said. Hope you and your dad are taking care of each other.
Still that obvious, huh? It gets a bit better everyday, just not fast enough. Thanks for being so kind and caring.
But if Biden eventually says he’s not running, most of the numbers he’s currently polling will go to Hillary.
“It’s so, kid.”
