Discussion: Reports: House Judiciary Speaking Directly With Mueller Team About Potential Hearing

I don’t think people are getting the full import of this: Mueller? Mr. Straight arrow, stickler for stickling, by the book Mueller is saying “fuck the chain of command” and negotiating directly?

Yeah, he pissed and alarmed.

That’s the way you do it. Bravo!

I am hoping he’s still the straight shooter. So many people were bewildered when chicken man Barr stepped in with his very own interpretation of the report. Please give us some hopeful information.

I can’t voice my relief enough. Very good, Mr. Chairman.

So what’s the over-under on Spankee firing Mueller to mess with his pension? Side bet on who he’ll try to enlist to do the deed. Barr? Rosenstein? Rodd-o has a week left.

The investigation is over. Isn’t Mueller a private citizen again? Can’t he just show up at a hearing under his own judgement? (Presumably there are complications with what he can say in public.)

I object to the idea that Barr will fit under any desk.

Don’t think for a NY minute Robert III hasn’t already considered this, and any / all variations of what Spank & Barr might try to do to get back at him if he goes ahead with a House hearing. This is big dooey if true.

Here, Barr is banking on Mueller’s normal pattern of deferral to and respect for process. I hope that Barr’s behavior has been egregious enough for Mueller to just dish…

The fact that Mueller is doing this at all is like fingernails on a chalkboard. It violates the norms he has lived with all his life…Moreover, this is the organization he has revered for decades…

That’s how big the danger is that Mueller is addressing.

Trump defense attorney Barr and his lickspittles shouldn’t be involved in discussions with Mueller about testimony. Barr shouldn’t even be in charge of anything at DOJ. He’s a walking talking Trump talking points disseminator and obstructer.

From Neal Katyal who wrote the Special Cousel regs. Not sure that I agree with him that the system is working but it seems that Mueller is able to testify without going through DOJ

First, provide a mechanism to enable an independent investigation, and thereby generate public confidence in the outcome of that investigation. Second, design that mechanism so that if the attorney general interferes with the special counsel’s inquiry, that interference would be reported to Congress and ultimately become public.

Indeed, i’m sure he has. I would also wager that he’s reasonably comfortable already, and certainly would never have to pay for a drink the rest of his days.

Just the fact Mueller “went to paper”, from what I understand about how things in government normally function, was a clarion call. And we know this by how angry Barr is at Mueller for leaving a paper trail for all history, revealing what a duplicitous pos Barr is.

What I don’t understand is why Mueller continues to be employed by DoJ as he’s already concluded his services. Reports are he’s due to retire “within days”, but why the delay? As a non-governmental employee, my understanding is he’s free to testify on his own volition.

Wasn’t Mueller retired before being named Special Council? I don’t think his pension can be messed with.

Not sure if this could happen as he’d already left the FBI and was in private practice when appointed as Special Counsel. And so what if Trump fires him, he’s then a private citizen.
