Discussion: Reports: Behind Closed Doors, Trump Kept Claiming Mexico Would Pay For Border Wall

He’s gonna need a different set of closed doors.

The man is certifiable.

If he says that in private, to a person who knows perfectly well what the facts are, then yeah. That’s fucking delusional. He’s not in touch with reality.

The question is actually, in how many different ways is he certifiable? The dude has more issues than National Geographic. If you tried to enter diagnostic codes for everything that’s wrong inside that ridiculously coiffed cranium, you’d break the medical database.

He explained this mostly to himself, as he bear-hugged his torso and rocked in his chair like a desperately constipated child on a toilet.

Shit like this makes me nostalgic for the genius of Warren Harding.

I think a more accurate assessment is that he is not that smart to begin with, and when he gets stressed or excited he goes back to talking points/lines that give him comfort. It is his way of reducing the internal stress of his narcissism. So he is challenged and he reflexively grabs onto an old standard like “mexico will pay” or “lock her up”

Not technically delusional… That said, the root cause of all of this is that Trump is just not that smart, and can’t encode new memmories easily.

Trump to Mexico: “Pay for the wall or I’ll sabotage my own government!”

You really have to be in awe of this level of masterful negotiation. A kind of genius really.

Dear Mexico: Please respond by offering him a job. We couldn’t recommend him highly enough. After watching him these past two years we can say without a doubt that if you can get Donald J Trump to work for you, you’ll be very lucky indeed.

Sounds like someone didn’t have his big-boy pants on during the media access portion of the meeting

Yes, indeed. And who will bell the tiger?

Newbies learned more from Nancy today than they did from any of their orientation programs. She could have ended her day with, “Class dismissed.”

Anyone interested in the Chief of Staff position watching what’s gone on today? I’d say head for the hills, this guy is beyond looney.

Have to disagree. A number of highly qualified professionals have departed from their ethical guidelines to warn that he’s severely mentally ill. I agree he ain’t bright. But he’s got a very, very severe textbook case of malignant narcissism. His inability to deal with reality surfaces time and time again. The principle you’re talking about is possibly and probably a factor, but even under stress people who can handle reality typically don’t deny it in horrifying ways. He does.

The problem is he doesn’t get the cheers from his crowds of supporters. He needs a laugh track or something of that sort.

I would add to this that general stupidity or incuriosity would not (I wouldn’t think) present quite so systematically and predictably as in Trump’s case.

Look, we’re not FSB experts tasked with analyzing leaders from afar. We’re not even armchair psychologists. But we can all see the stimuli Donald Trump is seeing and very regularly predict his actions before he takes them.

There’s more than one short circuit in there at this point. Fully functioning humans, even dim ones, surprise you from time to time. When was the last time we were surprised (not horrified, that happens all the time, but legitimately surprised) by Donald Trump?

That man is going to blow sky high by Valentines Day. This is not sustainable.
