Bad for the opioid crisis, good for all other aspects of drug policy though? I’m mostly heartened by this news.
Given how Donnie is so pro-Russia, I would have thought he’d love having a czar around.
Bet Rob Portman and other redstate opioid / meth stronghold politicians may have something to say…
Budget Director Mulvaney, he of Freedom Caucus Land, takes an idea and runs with it – over the cliff, if need be. He’s never seen a budget he couldn’t slash to bits with glee. Mulvaney doesn’t need a boss’ guidance. He sees a green light from Trump and it’s off to the races without a hint of discretion. See Meals on Wheels…
Gotta find money for that wall, you know. Keep those Mexican drugs out of the country.
[head plant, repeat until unconscious]
Sanders had earlier warned, “My first piece of advice would never be to use Politico for a source for your story.”
Fair enough.
We’ll stick to White House sources:
Ummmm, I thought Dear Leader was all about ending the opioid crisis?
Of course, he thinks the opioid crisis is caused by Murderous Mexican Drug Gangs (FEAR THEM!) smuggling drugs across the border rather than by prescription-factory doctor feel-goods and misuse of prescription drugs manufactured and distributed by Big Pharma.
Yep. I guarantee you there’s pretty much the same formulation going on here. Trump views all his liberal opposition as hippies and, well, then there’s the minorities too…liberal or not.
PS: Funny how it’s always someone with a name that sounds like it’s straight out of the 3rd Reich, isn’t it? Ehrlichman? Sehr gut!
And just in time for illegal self-medication to start once everyone loses their health insurance!
But, didn’t you hear? Trump is saving us taxpayers a whole bunch of money by staying, together with “his team,” at his private golf club in New Jersey this (long) weekend, so it’s all good.
Mulvaney needs to be sent back to whatever neanderthal cave he emerged from and stay there!
Hmmm … I’d love to see this handled properly … but it’s a bunch of Republicans – Trump ones, at that.
I am all for properly assisting those fighting addictions. I am also all for our federal government giving up on its terrible “war on drugs” so long as they re-direct those funds and efforts to actual treatment and going after dangerous traffickers–not the users–and anyone who uses our public lands for growing their stuff. I also suggest we commission a committee for reviewing this nation’s drug policies as they pertain to what is and isn’t/should and shouldn’t be considered illicit. The committee should comprise of government pharmacists, law enforcement (local, state and fed), law enforcement watchdog groups, addicts (current and former users), a smattering of various groups who assist those and their families & friends who are coping with addiction, government and private physicians and nurses who treat addicts, reps from the various insurance organizations, etc.
It has taken a long time getting here, it will take a long time and enormous effort to right our wrongs and do right by those who are affected by drugs and by the misguided policies we’ve instituted over the decades. Our prisons are littered with so many lost souls and some who are still salvageable. One can dream.
Yes times a million, especially wrt marijuana. However, I wonder how much of the drug “war” will be shifted over to Jeffy Sessions?
Somewhat conflicted. I think the entire Drug War™ is beyond stupid, however given the constant GOP rhetoric about the desperate need to combat opioid addiction, and Trump talking about how “bad hombres” are flooding America with drugs, it is beyond hypocritical to then turn around and basically defund the Office of National Drug Control Policy.
I would much rather the DEA budget got gutted and the money from that moved to this office to help combat drug addiction.
Bingo. No good motives involved here. Jeff Sessions will see to that.
Don’t forget those private prisons that need filling.
Jared’s been put in charge of the opioid crisis. He and he alone can end their use.
Why not cut it completely anyway since Jared Kushner has the opioid problem in his purview and of course he’s an expert much like he is for the mid east. (blech!)
If he could cure my damaged vertebrae and osteoarthritis thereby ending my daily chronic pain I would be impressed.
So the remaining 5% of the budget will be used to go after marijuana users. Those leftists and negroes leaving those affected by the opioids crisis, who are overwhelmingly Trump voters in the dust.
