Actually, no.

Itā€™s what journalists are SUPPOSED to do. They stopped some time ago.

Maybe we can come up with a new term for journalists who are actually more than stenographers?

She is as sharp as a tack, quick as a whip, and as big a contrast in professionalism as one can be compared to trump.

Yes, they need to press on. And that takes some doing. But I think that with the president of the Unites States being a fascist asshole moron, the press needs also to function as a cohesive group, not as individuals out for what they can get. They need to have each othersā€™ backs and attack the bastard. Every time. He needs to be held to account and brought down. He needs to be accused, aggressively, repeatedly, and publicly.

Itā€™s just too bad that for many journalists ā€œthe workā€ includes a healthy dose of faux objectivism, and objectivism weighted over truth-telling.

Actually, I think youā€™e close to the right terms already - stenographers, note-takers or ā€˜repeatersā€™ versus the true professionals - journalists.

Yes, but much like the word ā€œconservativeā€, the word ā€œjournalistā€ has been watered down and neutered to the point where it doesnā€™t mean anything anymore.

Thatā€™s why I think a new term is in order.

Perhaps we could either adopt either Greek or Roman mythology-

Aletheia was the ancient Greek personified spirit (daimona) of truth and sincerity. In Roman mythology, Veritas is the goddess of truth.

Ideally, there would be a way to recognize journalists that live up to these high standards, to help build recognition and respect in the public eye for these people. Like a Pulitzer Prize for living up to the responsibilities of a journalist in preserving our Democracy.

How about calling yourselves REPORTERS? ( or as Bob Woodward would pronounce it Rah-porter) There are a lot of people involved in journalism that donā€™t gather facts and report them so you need to separate yourselves from that horde of hangers on and talking heads. You say your job is to press on, but if he insults and degrades you, what makes you think he will give you an answer to your next question? Jesus Christ on a Kaiser Roll, as Charlie Pierce would say, Stand up for yourselves!
