Timely and topical. Thanks TPM!

Omidyar also sponsors a local news site in Hawaii, Civil Beat (civilbeat.com). It doesn’t seem to have any of these problems and is pretty much the only source for good local journalism, which makes me think the problem is with other people (cough, Greenwald, cough).

It is interesting that the division of First Look Media designated to investigate corporate malfeasance never got off the ground despite spending millions.

Perhaps the problem is not with those who were hired (Greenwald, Scahill, Taibbi, et al) but rather with those who make the money decisions and did the hiring?

this venture was the greatest example of crminal ineptitude in the history of modern journalism??? ahhh I can think of two other stories that more than qualify for that position …project truth from the reagan admin about iran -contra…and the run up to the war with iraq…nuff said

The problems at First Look have little to do with Greenwald rather than the management style of moneyman founder Pierre Omidyar. But Marshall nurses a grudge against Greenwald, so he never misses an opportunity to harp over personnel problems at his latest venture.

Definitely seems like a lot more going on here than the article illuminates, and this guy Silverstein sounds like a whiny narcissistic discontent, “Criminal ineptitude”? Paying a bunch of prima donnas to do nothing for a few months sounds like a public service to me…

He got to hold the Oscar for awhile last night when CItizenFour won.

What a pathetic joke. Greenwald and team break one of the biggest stories in the last decade that has directly resulted in parliaments around the world changing their laws to protect privacy. This includes the US Congress. Greenwald and team won the Pulitzer and last night they won an Oscar. So how does Talking Point respond to this incredible story. Just like they have in the past two years. Continue the attacks on Glenn Greenwald with some minor story about a disgruntled intercept employee.

The fact is that Edward Snowden and Greenwald have done more to expose our government’s assault on privacy than anyone else in the last decade. All Talking Points can do is gripe some minor employee and personality disputes. Methinks that TPM has missed one of the biggest stories in this century. And all they can do is whine on the sidelines. What a pathetic joke.

I don’t disagree, but I find it troubling that so many journalists who I respect have fled the enterprise while Greenwald still hangs on.

That’s pretty much it. Josh Marshall has been seething at Greenwald ever since Greenwald (and many others) ridiculed Marshall for claiming that the Zero Dark Thirty movie was not pro-torture. Marshall does not take criticism well (as evdenced by his refusal to allow comments on any of his posts) and holds a petty grudge against Greenwald.

Greenwald does not manage the company. He runs only one of its properties, The Intercept.

As well as others here who seem to dislike his personality and ignore the actual significant work that he has done.

This is the essential problem facing today’s journalism: an overwhelming concerning and reporting on journalismt itself, and especilly the unimportant and petty going-ons.

Okay, so, FL has been having some problems with it’s hiring. I still think that the journalism that led to the establishment of the Intercept–namely the Snowden revelations–are more important that the problems facing FL Media.

This kind of “reporting” is post-journalism: reporting on or gossiping about media personalities, which replaces journalism abiut the events of the day.

Why would any of these “journalists” think this was a good career move in the first place?

And, hey, TPM, you ain’t quoting Shakespeare. No need for brackets at the beginning of a quotation. Very annoying, and even pretentious.
