Discussion: Report: Trump's Dad Was Arrested After 1927 Ku Klux Klan Brawl With NYPD

you forgot stupid

This will improve Trump’s popularity even more.

So ~84% of Trumpettes are 45 or older, with 34% of those over 65. In other words, angry, scared old white people.

So in other words the majority of republicans.

The Donald would only be channeling his heritage if Daddy Trumpbucks was a Klan sympathizer; the Klan loves Trump’s ideas for our borders.

NYC police: Exceeding their authority since 1927 - at least!

People who escape a background of bigotry deserve great credit. And those who fail to escape it deserve disdain. Knowing about the background helps us judge how the character of the person has developed. Hillary started as a Goldwater Girl and look at her now. I’d been struggling for how to account for Trump;s reaction to the exoneration of the Central Park Five. Five men who as young black teenagers had been gulled into confessing to a crime they did not commit. Trump felt that there was no reason that these men should be recompensed in any fashion for the wrong done them. I’d thought that maybe it was a intellectual glitch – that once he got an idea he couldn’t let go of it. But now given the way he slurred Mexican immigrants combined with this information. it’s highly likely that he was raised as a thorough going racist.

You’ve got to be taught
To hate and fear,
You’ve got to be taught
From year to year,
It’s got to be drummed
In your dear little ear
You’ve got to be carefully taught.

You’ve got to be taught to be afraid
Of people whose eyes are oddly made,
And people whose skin is a diff’rent shade,
You’ve got to be carefully taught.

You’ve got to be taught before it’s too late,
Before you are six or seven or eight,
To hate all the people your relatives hate,
You’ve got to be carefully taught!

Well, maybe not all of them will be encouraged: the article features a handbill posted by the Klan complaining about the Roman Catholic police attacking native born Protestants who were demonstrating peacefully for flag, public schools and English.

Dad’s behavior has some relevance even while his offenses shouldn’t send the son to jail. Chip-off-the-old-block analysis is more reasonable. Family membership in the Ku Klux Klan offers a teaching moment for the maturing youngster. What did he learn? Someone should ask the candidate. Has he repudiated the association? Will he acknowledge the hateful place of the Ku Klux Klan and its members and friends in the history of American terrorism? A presidential candidate in this era of insurgent white American hostility toward people of color should have some 'splaining to do about his family’s links to the Ku Klux Klan and how he thinks about all that. Even so, this is perhaps not an issue for Donald Trump alone. Makes me think others among the candidates may have some memory of this thick stream of hatred running through the family.

Gee, what a coincidence that Tramp’s dad was a racist thug!

This is not surprising. Just a a few years later a couple of neighborhoods away in Glendale and Ridge wood members of the German Bund would march in the streets to show who was boss. Then they would retreat to the local beer hall. This was not long before and during WWII and no one was rounded up like many Japanese and Italians were.

His father would have been so proud of him?

If this is the best the opposition researchers have we are in trouble

I suspect that if Trump even responds to this story, his disdain for a blog called “boing boing” will be evident. Perhaps the response even writes itself. This was 90 years ago, and 20 years before he was even born? Pathetic, actually.

I don’t bother being disappointed with BoingBoing anymore. They’re a clickbait shop now; the whole idea is to generate pushback. But this is beneath TPM, which I still think of as an honest broker of news and political opinion.

Trump’s dad being a racist asshole is a tragedy for Trump himself. It’s none of my concern. I have the assholes in my own family tree to worry about, and I wouldn’t want to be judged by their actions either.

The Trump’s and the Donald show us once again the apple ain’t going to fall far from that tree!

If the media would explore the family background of the Koch’s and the Trump’s the US Public would be amazed with how we are supporting those with historical ties to Fascism and Nazi racism.

This is interesting but peripheral background. I wonder whether his father’s racially extreme views, palling around with the Klan, family environment and his upbringing had influences on Donald Trump that remain today and affect the style and substance of his campaign.

Fear makes people stupid.
Fear is the strongest of emotions and overrides every other thought and idea.
That is why most Religions are based on FEAR.
Fear of dying.
Fear of Retribution for what they have done in their lives.
Fear of being excluded from “The Tribe”.
Fear of Change (very strong in older folks, I know, I’m one of them and see it in lots of my friends unfortunately)
Don’t discount how strong FEAR can be as an influence.
The Republicans are MASTERS of exploiting Fear and it is ALL they have to run on this cycle so expect a LOT of it.

It’s a ancient saying that ''The sins of the fathers shall be visited on the sons."
This is not guilt by association but another way of observing that oftentimes ‘the fruit doesn’t fall from the tree,’ The Trump Gene. Maybe he escaped it? Let present circumstances be the judge.

What we need is a complete breakdown on the race relations of the Trump family. Because even if he was not a Klansman, his company was prosecuted for racial discrimination in the 70’s. Now if you are raised by someone who runs his company in a racist fashion, I think its a fair question to ask “do you now, or have you ever repudiated your father’s racist views, and why should we think you are not influenced by them.” If the answer is " I let anyone with $114,000 to spare join my golf club", then so be it.

Isn’t Trump the one who says we have to go after the terrorist’s wives and kids? So if he wants to punish children for the sins of the father, why doesn’t the same apply to him. Certainly before you’d elect the son of a terrorist, you would ask some tough questions. I think the same should be true of the son of a man who refused to rent to black people.
