Discussion: Report: Trump Could Stage Rally To Bolster State Of The Union Speech

If you had a multi-decade career in the Government, Security Clearance and all that, you’re not going to put it at risk over a stupid and pointless protest.

It’s not up to the workers to ‘save themselves’, it’s up to the public to stand up for them and demand action from the Senate.

Donnie creates his own play pen and then throws toys and food at everyone. What a child!

Well, then they’re doubly screwed.

OK. Take it passively then. Works wonder for sheep.

He’s not going to try to force his way into the House. I doubt he’ll settle for the Senate.

He will give a rally somewhere most likely.

Technically, though, State of the Union speeches are delivered to Congress, not crowds at political rallies.

Which means it’s not a State of the Union address. It’s a political rally and nothing more. The only thing that matters is how the media covers them, do they give more attention to his SOTU address where he’s supposedly acting as President or to him personally during his political rally where he’s specifically not acting as Presdient.

It already has, hasn’t it? I mean, minus the dick. But this is masturbatory as sure as we all live and breathe.

He will give a rally somewhere most likely.

Very likely. Pelosi won’t give him enough to feed him and he’ll give up.

Yup. Feel horrible for them, it really is a rock and a hard place.

And I’d expect to see retirements skyrocket in the aftermath from those eligible, and a lot more of the mid-career folks jumping as well.

The tradeoff was always simple: you get paid less than private sector, but as long as you don’t fuck up, you get good job security and a decent pension.

This stuff just throws all of that security out the window.

I think that room is too small for the entire Congress to attend and satisfy the constitutional requirement for a verbal SOTU.

He could deliver a written text to the entire congress and then just do a speech on the Senate floor, but that might be too much of a circus show for even McConnell to stomach. Especially if all the Dem Senators suddenly found other conflicts in their schedule and failed to show up.

No offer, no consideration. Would be unlawful in any case between government officials. No court could or would compel performance, as it’s a political matter and there’s an established alternative. I think he really does want to try this. What he also doesn’t realize is that time is running out earlier than he thinks, and may even have run out already. You can’t set something like this up without several days’ prep, and neither house of congress has issued an invitation.

He simply cannot resist this opportunity to give a big F U to Nancy. He does not give a damn about the institutions in this country. He only cares about himself, and what Hannity and Coulter think of him. Impressions are all that matter.

  1. As speaker, she has to gavel in the session and has total control over the room. 2) She absolutely controls media, can call a closed session at any tine. 3) president like any other non-elected members are all guests and the speaker can ignore them or remove them. Thus is basic rubies, which, of course, Trump doesn’t give a hoot about.

The bishop might even send all his #MAGA hatted students to the event.

This is really lame…a few thoughts

1st, the SOTU is ALWAYS a political rally for the party of the sitting President…I mean have you ever watched one and then followed the “coverage” which IMMEDIATELY scores the speech by the number of standing ovations and cold silences it sparked?

2nd, this is really TOO easy. Trump can “win” this by delivering his report to Congress and then giving his speech somewhere else. The steps of the Capitol building or the White House lawn would work, EXCEPT that with the government shut down, how would the protection be provided?

Alternatively, give the speech in some friendly state or univiersity and make them…errrrrr ASK them to provide security. No pesky Dems to scowl at him or boo him while he’s spewing whatever lies he’s going to spew. Heck, give the speech within site of the Texax/Mexico border just to make his point about the missing wall.

As long as he gives the speech to “supporters” he will win the news cycle and look like SUCH a hero to his base.

3rd, I’m not saying Pelosi should cave on this–stand on principal for once. But Trump can win this “fight” if chooses to do so. Oh, and then Congress should fail to pass any bill that reimburses Trump’s “off site” SOTU. Let him pay it out of pocket…or maybe that inauguration committee has a few millions sitting around.

Pelosi isn’t going to budge on the postponement, but it would be a truly epic own to let him in to give the speech, but right after the first sentence, change the teleprompter channel to a loop of him going down that escalator over and over again. He’ll be mesmerized. The ensuing word salad will expose his impairment for all to see on nationwide TV.
