Discussion: Report: Trump Admin Pushing House To Weaken Senate's Russia Sanctions Bill

“The White House is trying to cast the provision as an incursion on Trump’s executive authority.” Yer damn’ right it is! With that idiot in the White House, we need all the incursions we can get.

[I posted this elsewhere but it’s more appropriate here.]

Interesing exchange yesterday.

Bill Priestap, assistant director of the FBI’s counterintelligence division, testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee that Moscow “employed a multifaceted approach intended to undermine confidence in our democratic process,” including efforts to “discredit” Hillary Clinton and help elect Trump.

Citing Priestap’s description of Russian efforts to “sow discord” in the United States, Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) asked Priestap about the term “unwitting agent,” meaning an official duped into doing the bidding of a foreign power.

“Did Donald Trump become an unwitting agent of the Russians?” Heinrich asked.

Priestap paused for several seconds, with the hearing room silent.

“I can’t really comment on that,” he said.

It’s telling that Priestap couldn’t simply say “No.”

BTW: The term the Russians use to describe an “unwitting agent” is useful idiot.

Putin: Urine trouble, Donnie.
Trump: No sanctions! No sanctions! You’re the sanctions!

This is unfair to Mr.Trump! He made a little bargain with Putin and this bill will make him unable to keep up his end of the deal. It’s the obstructionist Democrats again now trying to stop an honorable man like Mr. Trump from keeping his word. Terrible!

Posted this in another thread last night.

Now let’s think about what kind of “possible retaliation” is Trump so afraid of that he has to push the House to weaken the sanctions…

It’s astounding. He just can’t stop.

Meanwhile, just yesterday:

“A Russian jet flew within 5ft (1.5m) of a US reconnaissance plane’s wing tip over the Baltic Sea on Monday, US officials say.”

And in a later incident:

”The F-16 fighter jet was chased away by a Russian Su-27 military jet over the Baltic.”

And:

“Russia, an ally of the Syrian government, warned on Monday that US jets flying in Syria would be treated as targets.”

These are military enemies of the United States.

If Republicans betray America to these killers, then they are traitors.

That any veteran – let alone men or women currently in uniform – could support the GOP is madness.

Yes. But I don’t have the technology.

It’s important to note the the Su-27 that intercepted the F-16 rocked its wings to show the NATO (Polish) pilot he was armed with air-to-air missiles. That, my friends, is what a direct, undisguised threat looks like.

Here’s video of the incident.

Josh has an interesting side bar about Trump’s actions and guilt. It discusses Trump’s ego and the election. Good piece so read it.

It continues to become more about whether Trump was knowingly a dupe of the Russians than his fear that when his corrupt financial ties to Russian money, directly or through Destuch Bank, become fully known, and his illegal money laundering schemes become clear, all to support his modern day mob empire, he will not be able to mentally weather the shame that the Russians saw him for what he is - their puppet, and not only had him by the financial short hairs but did everything they could to cause him to win by pure manipulation and propaganda schemes.

Trump seems less worried about whether he is corrupt than thinking, at the near end of his life when he achieved the Presidency, that the world will know he did not do it on his own and he will be shamed. This really does seem like he more interested in protecting his public persona and his infantile ego than running the free world nor going to jail.

This is scary thought but likely true.

I suspect that Mueller has peeled back two layers of the onion and found such bumbling corruption and connections to Russian mob and money that he needs all of the new legal support to follow the many new threads in Trump’s web. And all of the semi-sane Trump cronies know it. Thus, they all have personal lawyers.

I feel at some point soon, the drip, drip, drip will stop and the dam will break.

Let’s see who can get to dry land, see who gets stuck in the vortex, and then see who tries to save others.

150 plus days and every day has a new headline.

This is tiresome, but so important - RESIST.
