Discussion: Report: Supervisors Falsified Training Records For Sheriff's Deputy Charged With Manslaughter

Discussion for article #235350

One cop wannabe heading to jail, and now it looks like a number of Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office supervisors are going to suffer at least some kind of hurt - demotion, dismissal, whatever. What a spectacular clusterf*ck.

If true, it looks like the Sheriff’s Department might be looking at a lot of internal restructuring. I hope the Dept. of Justice is paying close attention to this story.

Out of the way people! Stampede of lawyers headed to Tulsa!

I wonder how widespread this practice is and do all the men resemble Dick Cheney?

He wont serve a day in jail. Remember I told you so.

I wonder how anonymous the depositions will be.

But we all know the reporter is correct. It’s interesting the Sheriff deems her request for anonymity as disqualifying her but keeping that “female agent” that went to the Secret Service unknown…well that’s OK.

He can’t find the records for the classic reason: They don’t exist. We all know that. In time more truth will come out and even in Oklahoma this Sheriff is history and whether charged or not, an accessory to homicide. He and his department aided and abetted this killing before the fact. Then made attempts at cover up with false statements and manipulation of evidence.

We all know this.

Yes. Also, kudos to the ones who stood their ground and wouldn’t take part – and were reprimanded, etc. I sincerely hope an outside investigation–preferably federal–takes place.

Put the woman who transferred to the Secret Service on paid leave. If she falsified the records the last thing you want on the Secret Services is someone open to that type of corruption.

There should be no stain on her honor until the matter is proved one way or the other. It is simply that you don’t run that type of risk with security.

I hope you’re wrong. Given his lack of qualifications, and the fact that must have been a willing participant in the falsification of his training records, it might prove to be tough to let this guy skate by with a suspended sentence.

I’m more than a decade younger than this guy, and if someone told me that I was going to have to do LEO work, I’d insist upon a gun with no bullets, a taser with no battery, and a nerf baton. My reaction times just ain’t what they used to be, especially under stress.

They should be charged as accessories.

At least.

I imagine you are right. But think of the hubris and disconnect that sheriff and department must posses to think they could do this and get away with it. It’s a good argument for getting the money out of elections. In this case it got a man killed…by a tax funded institution sworn to “protect and serve”…and its all about the Benjamins.

Yup. And those folks the dick head sheriff messed over are going to be very motivated to talk. This should get interesting.

When I heard this report last night, the commentator said that the fault would lie with those providing the certification, which could lead a novel defense position. Although from his statement, Bates may believe he is certified in more than there is on his records.

I’d agree with you but…big money is involved. A quick incrimination of the Sheriff would shut down the hunt for others. If the fat wallets want this asshole in jail ( so business as usual can continue ) he’s going to McAlester.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I am sure that lessons will be learned, unverifiable new policies will be put in place and they’ll do better in the future. Should have this wrapped up by lunch.

So basically, this guy dumped a ton of cash into the sheriff’s campaign coffers, spent a few thousand on equipment for the department, and he ended up basically going on an urban hunting trip.

And the sickest thing is, he may get off with a slap on the wrist and a fine. Nothing more.

He got to hunt down and kill a human being for all of this.

Sounds like the Tulsa Sheriff’s Department is running an Urban Hunting Club.

Your right, he won’t. A crooked judge will rule that he has afflenza or something, Let’s hope that at least the lawyers bleed him white.

And one dead person. Cl&sterf*ck doesn’t even begin to capture this.
