Follow the money. It’s always been all about the money. Trump needed it, sketchy Russians had it (funneled via inflated asset sales to Russian nominees and Deutsche Bank loans) He took it. And they had him.

“The probe into Trump associates’ finances stems from a money-laundering
investigation former U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara initiated last year,
the anonymous source told Bloomberg, and since has been consolidated
into special counsel Robert Mueller’s wide-ranging investigation. Trump
fired Bharara in March after the prosecutor refused to step down
voluntarily.”

No wonder Trump is running scared. Follow the money, indeed.

I feel that any news article reporting this line from Trump should take the time to point out that it is false.

All of this is most excellent news.

From the WaPo article on this (emphasis added):

“It has previously been reported that the Russia investigation has focused on the business dealings of Trump’s son-in-law and top adviser, Jared Kushner, but this appears to be the first indication that Trump’s own finances are under scrutiny.”

“I mean, it’s possible there’s a condo or something, so, you know, I sell a lot of condo units, and somebody from Russia buys a condo, who knows?” Trump told the newspaper. “I don’t make money from Russia.”

He just washes, fluffs and folds it.

Okay, maybe I missed this “minor” detail in the sea of sludge that is the Trump Administration. But the commerce secretary is the former vice chairman of the f’ing Bank of Cyprus?? The country whose banking system has been a preferred location for Russian mafia/government officials’ money laundering since at least 1994?

A money quote from that 1994 article: “‘Let’s speak frankly,’ one Cypriot banker said in Nicosia. ‘Russia is bankrupt and can’t generate this kind of cash. All money that’s coming from Moscow is illegal because of Russia’s exchange-control regulations. But we’re talking of millions and that can only come from illegal arms sales, most probably to Iran and Iraq.’”

So 13 years ago, Cyprus was awash in money from illegal arms sales to Iran and similar things. Fast forward to February of 2016 (which you’ll note is before Trump was expected to be the candidate, let alone the President) and we have this article.

Money quote there: ““Recent developments in Cyprus in relation to the Magnitsky case have shown the failure of Cyprus to apply money laundering legislation in practice,” he said.
“This case is a litmus test for whether Cyprus is now really paying attention to proper controls or whether it is only paying lip service to the recommendations.”
Sergei Magnitsky was a Russian anti-corruption activist killed in prison in 2009 after exposing a $230 million tax fraud.
The syndicate of Russian officials and hard criminals, the Klyuev Group, responsible for the fraud laundered millions via Cypriot banks. They also visited Cyprus several times, making the EU state “a central base for it in Europe,” Omtzigt noted.”

This was two years after Mr. Ross, the current commerce secretary, bought stake in a Cyprus bank that was mostly owned by Russians, including a former KGB friend of Putin’s. And not terribly long before the Russian mafia contacted the Trump campaign to talk about… adoptions. Which was Russia’s response to the Magnitsky act, so any discussion of the adoption law is in effect a discussion of money laundering in Cyprus.

But this is all a coincidence, some people say…
