Discussion: Report: Some Of Trump's Lawyers Wanted Kushner To Step Down

Sounds like the ā€œoutside legal teamā€ may not have appreciated Jared ā€œFull Metal Jackassā€ Kushnerā€™s selfless attempt to vet Hillaryā€™s fitness for office. Not very patriotic of them.

No way Jared goes. Trump is running out of stupid people he trusts in the WH. Thank Kelly.

Much as I would love to see Jarvanka gone, they are, however unwittingly, a force for the good ā€“ because they keep giving Donnie such crap advice and heā€™s stupid enough to follow it, because he trusts them. And then he gets slammed.

My next prediciton is that most of those lawyers who recommended this will be gone before Jarvanka. Disloyalty, you know.

Leaving the WH would put a serious crimp in KushnerĀ“s business model. The perception of influence is far and away his main asset at this point.

Thatā€™s right, Donnie, you keep ignoring the advice of your attorneys because thatā€™s your winning strategy and ticket out of the massive storm brewing.

And this storm is still gaining strength and is guaranteed to make landfall. But you know best.

Iā€™ve always been a little intrigued by the gray area where you commit crimes in a position of influence and then step down when it comes to light and things are getting hot. Heā€™s done influence-peddling on a global, hundreds-of-millions-of-dollars level. Giving up a bogus position wouldnā€™t diminish that problematic influence much. But maybe for people who play this game itā€™s enough of a win sometimes.

Lawyers. Theyā€™re only looking at Kushnerā€™s legal liabilities. Theyā€™re not paying any attention to how much money heā€™s bringing in. The Trump presidency is all about the bottom line. When he starts hurting the brand, thatā€™s when heā€™ll go.

No matter how the Trump presidency ends, heā€™ll claim it was a success because it was very profitable for him. He wonā€™t show documentation, but will assert huge returns and claim wild success. His base will agree.

I saw in a Twitter thread once months ago that someone had criticized him and one of his supporters said go ahead and complain heā€™ll just blah blah blah his houses blah blah blah his hot model wife and so forth. For them, the stuff he does that seems sad and fake and superficial to people like us is real, meaningful, to be envied, confers a borrowed luster on yourself, all that. It works as intended, in short. To them, heā€™s everything he pretends to be. Iā€™m not going to wallow in cynicism or lazily decide this is a hopeless, stupid country. But weā€™re a more gullible people than we want to admit. And by we I guess I mean I.

Hilarious how dumb lawyers can be. Of course, Kushner is dirty. Thatā€™s a given.

But he is probably venal enough to have saved Get Out Of Jail evidence on the Old Man (& the Pee) to save his own skin when necessary. It might cause some problems at family gatherings, of course, but does anybody really think that Kushner wouldnā€™t turn witness to stay out of jail? It has been reported that his fatherā€™s jail term was an inflection point in his life. It is also why he never seems to talk for the record.

Thatā€™s only part of the worry. Trumpā€™s lawyers are also deeply concerned that Jared is whispering in Donaldā€™s ears. And that the whispers are more about keeping Jared out of jail, than protecting Donald.

If he has to step down, Iā€™d prefer it to be the express from the penthouse.

Precious Daughter must have convinced Daddy to let hubby stay.

After reading the excerpts from the WSJ (and WaPo) articles over at the Daily Intelligencer (here), you can practically hear the inrush of breath from these sycophantic lawyers Trump has working for him now.

Loyalty to client =/= Best interests of client.

@theghostofeustacetilley You sure heā€™s untouchable? He married in to the family. In a family where divorces are pandemic. If it gets hot enough, we may be treated to the Hyuuuuge underbussing of all time.
Wishful thinking maybe, but desperate men do desperate things.

Begin snark:
Jared, if youā€™re listening, as a friend, as a fellow lantsmanā€  sheā€™s a boat anchor. A ball and chain.
Ask for your freedom.

End snark(for this post)

Kushner has had the same problems as his father in law in terms of raising other peopleā€™s money to cover his debts. As we see with the Deutsche Bank loans, this guarantee-chaining used by Trump may have been adopted by son-in-law. Iā€™m not sure if it would qualify as money laundering, because money doesnā€™t actually move, but it probably does meet the ā€œlayeringā€ element of the ā€œplacement, layering, and integrationā€ characteristics of money laundering noted by the Fed in their 2002 report.
