Hmmm, seems someone this morning is trying really hard to polish his tur … oops, I meant, image.
Have some self-respect, Mitt. You went into his lair of your own free will. You really expected he wouldn’t grope your privates then cast you aside? Really? Were you even listening to your own speeches from last spring?
Well, Romney did apologize…after that famous dinner of hot dogs at that fancy restaurant in NYC:
“I had a wonderful evening with President-elect Trump,” Romney said after leaving the dinner. “We had another discussion about affairs throughout the world and these discussions I’ve had with him have been enlightening, and interesting, and engaging. I’ve enjoyed them very, very much. I was also very impressed by the remarks he made on his victory night. By the way, it’s not easy winning. I know that myself. He did something I tried to do and was unsuccessful in. He won the general election and he continues with a message of inclusion and bringing people together and his vision is something which obviously connected with the American people in a very powerful way. The last few weeks he’s been carrying or a transition effort and I can tell you I’ve been impressed by what I’ve seen in the transition effort.”
Well, if true, I applaud Romney because his original brutal assessment of Trump was true. If Trump demanded an apology as a condition for the Romney appointment, it speaks to Trump’s infantile, unPresidential temperament. The same conclusion can be drawn as before, i.e. Trump is a vulgarian.
Showing that ultimately Trump wants to boost his ego and seek acknowledgment. Denying him that is probably the best thing Mitt has ever done because it’s going to eat at Trump for the rest of eternity.
Apologizing would only have further diminished Romney; it wouldn’t have increased his chances at getting the SoS job, there never was a chance. Trump did his domination/retribution/revenge thing just fine without it.
Poor Mitt, all thinking he saved his image with one last shred of dignity, was too grovelized to realize he was left with barely a fig-leaf of a swatch of his magic underwear.
Well damn, Mitt, you sure are a paragon of principle.
I’m not inclined to congratulate him on this. It’s not a moral stand so much as a refusal to humiliate himself further. Deciding the SOS position wasn’t worth that to him wasn’t about standing up to Trump or about serving the country. It was just about him.
I never thought I’d say it, but please please let Romney be the next president. He has stood up to Trump and can bridge the gap between Republicans and Democrats.
Wrong. If Romney had any dignity or morals, he wouldn’t have met with Trump, much less begged for a job and publicly praised him. Stopping short of an actual public apology is hardly something to commend Romney for after his incredibly shameful performance.
What little respect I’d gained for Romney during the campaign is long, long gone. He’s arguably the most pathetic character in this entire nightmarish episode.
As I have said before, Trump is nothing but a crude, vulgar bully, who delights in humiliating others to get his way. If true, Romney’s refusal to apologize show he has just a little backbone left.
Clauscph is more diplomatic than I will be. Are you kidding??? Romney didn’t exactly stand up to Trump when he issued that glowing statement after their dinner date and I haven’t seen any evidence of how he could bridge any gaps. (Remember, 47% of us aren’t worth bothering with.)
