Discussion: Report: Rep. Tammy Duckworth To Announce Illinois Senate Bid Monday

Discussion for article #234796

Good luck to her!

Iā€™ve kind of wished that Kirk would step down or not run again since heā€™s had a hard time actually being there due to the stroke.

Itā€™s likely Boxer who leaves in 2016 will be replaced by a woman, Kamala Harris, and Mikulskiā€™s successor is anyoneā€™s guess, so with Duckworth there would still be 20 women in the Senate. I hope men and women can see the value of more women representing them.

I certainly wish that more people would. I live in Vermont and we have a problem with women not getting into politics because we have so few jobs in politics and far too many men already in those jobs that getting a woman into office has been difficult despite our liberal leanings.

People have encouraged me to get into politics, but I am very reluctant due to my social interaction issues.

Legs or not, I hope she kicks Kirkā€™s ass.

Edit: the other three D candidates are pretty good folks as well, I believe.

Here is California we have two women Senators, and weā€™re just one of a very few states which do.

I hear you. Curmudgeon is usually applied to men, but if thereā€™s an equivalency for women, thatā€™s me.

I like Kirk for the most part, but he cannot play the vet/military card against Tammy.

It is quite obvious.

Yay! Iā€™ll contribute to her campaign. I like her a bunch.

Unfortunately, weā€™ve never had a woman as Senator or Representativeā€¦and only one woman as governor.

I have some major social phobiasā€¦especially around men. I somehow have a feeling that a woman running for office who has a phobia of men is going to have some major problems getting elected.

Beat me to the ā€œkicks his assā€ sentiment; she is one kickass gal. From the admittedly very little I know of the other Dems (too soon, Robin Kelly!), it seems sheā€™d be the strongest candidate, though Iā€™m not in Illinois. But Iā€™ve seen her in action politically, in hearings and debates, and sheā€™s terrific. Definitely gives a good ass-kicking.

Iā€™d like him better if he didnā€™t give his party his ā€œmoderateā€ vote so oftenā€¦and yeah, coming right out with that vets reference was pretty jarring. Looks like sheā€™s already got him on the defensive, and overreacting. I like it.

Well, she sure kicked Joe Walshā€™s ass, and from the looks of it, itā€™s stayed kicked in.

Heh. Course, heā€™s got a tendency to kick his own ass, so that may not have been the best test of her power.

Unfortunately, in the current environment, if one of the GOP occasionally votes sensibly, itā€™s ā€˜moderateā€™. Kirk did that once in a while, but I agree that him showing his much weaker vet card against Tammy wreaks of desperation.

The TeaMen are already fearful of the pussification being visited on them ā€¦

Hear them whineā€¦

Yeah, Iā€™m just sick of the redefinition of ā€œmoderateā€ to mean anything slightly to the left of far-right nihilism. A sane vote here and there is of course welcome, but folks like Kirk, and Collins, and frankly too many Dems over the years, have done their part to pull the political spectrum so far right that John Ellis Bush is now commonly called a moderate, which is nuts. Sorry to glom onto your comment to rant, but this oneā€™s a biggie for me.

Remember what Saxby Chambless did to Max Cleland?

Glom on PLEASE!

Youā€™re right that ā€˜moderateā€™ has been horribly re-defined. The only recent GOP presidential candidate who could even come close to moderate was Huntsman, and the right simply disregarded him completely.

Media idiots categorize Bush, Walker, and Christie as ā€˜moderateā€™ and they are no where close.

Looks, uh, *Senatorial, * wouldnā€™t you say?
