What a shame to lose her. She was a fighter for good causes and justice. https://louise.house.gov/about/full-biography
Terrible news. Condolences to her friends & family.
She was a âgoodâ one. RIP Louise!
Rest easy, Congresswoman.
So sorry to hear.
Terrible news, and my condolences to those around her⌠still, 88âs not a bad run.
Never heard of her but Iâll often remind people that for all the yelling about throw the bums out, there are a lot of well-loved public servants at all levels. They tend to care about people and their community and theyâre very giving of themselves, and it comes back to them. You get to know a few of them and you start recognizing the type. And even people with views we hate can be that thing to their communities. I had a state rep for a long time who didnât quite grasp that separation of church and state thing so well, but she had stacks and stacks of letters from little people she helped out with a paperwork problem or some other situation a bit of official pressure could help.
Thank you, Congresswoman, for your service to your Country. Thanks to your family for sharing you with us.
Editing to add link to WaPo announcement - with a really nice write up. https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/obituaries/rep-louise-slaughter-liberal-democrat-who-championed-womens-rights-dies-at-88/2018/03/16/7b7f7c3e-2865-11e8-bc72-077aa4dab9ef_story.html?utm_term=.216f26f8981f
Hopefully, there is another strong woman waiting to fill her shoesâŚ
RIP
A terrible loss of a great Democrat and a wonderful, trailblazing congresswoman. RIP Louise!
A champion of the common good. I hope there are legions just like her ready to step forward âinto the arena.â Godspeed.
Louise was a rock star at the RBG level. One of my heroes.
Losing this incredibly tough, smart, deeply committed woman is a blow to the Democratic Party that I hope it is now ready and energized to withstand and respond to. Hereâs hoping we have many more Louise Slaughters on the horizon!
Sad news.
It is a reminder of the fragility of life in general, but also how fragile our hold is in reigning in the excesses of the Trump administration.
We have more than a few leaders of our party (and one SC justice) that are in this age range where recovery from injury is more challenging.
Let them all be well, and take it easy. We need them.
Good run, Rep. Louise. You did good!
On a (much) more personal note, TBI hits really close to home. Sorry to hear this was the CoD. Not really like any other cause would be any better, though. StillâŚWell done, Louise Slaughter. You were an example for everyone else to follow.
âTo have met Louise Slaughter is to have known a force of nature,â her chief of staff Liam Fitzsimmons said in a statement.
Amen
RIP Louise
âSlaughter was the first woman to chair the House Rules CommitteeâŚwas the co-chair and founder of the Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus, established the Office of Research on Womenâs Health, and was the co-author of the Violence Against Women ActâŚIn 2009, she brought the Affordable Care Act to the House floor for the historic vote.â
Another woman who didnât know her place.
Thank G-d.
âHonesty, integrity, and accountability, the values which should be the hallmark of this government, have instead been thrown under the bus by an arrogant majority, casualties in a misguided campaign to shield from accountability those who abuse this House.â
Rep. Louise Slaughter
R.I.P.
Thanks for that quote. Wow.
Very sad. She will be sorely missedâŚ
