Discussion: Report: Rep. Darrell Issa To Retire

He’s having trouble getting the right-leaning billboard companies to take his money and put up the signs. Sinclair owns quite a few etc…

He won by 1,600 votes…in California. If Dems don’t pick up this seat, IDK what we’re doing wrong. But to be fair, this is a more conservative area of CA. Issa won with 63%, 58%, and 60% in 2010, 2012, and 2014 respectively. So maybe Applegate was just strong, or maybe there was a lot of anti-Trump sentiment, or maybe people are finally sick of Issa’s hypocritical bullshit. But you also have to consider that Issa has been in congress a long time with a huge amount of money fundraised, he was incumbent, and his personal fortune is > $400 million.

This should immediately go in the toss-up category for 2018.

(As to your primary question, I’d say not likely helpful to GOP).

Holy crap. I hadn’t realized that Issa just barely squeaked by in 2016. 50.3 to 49.7.

And Hillary won it by seven points.

WTF is wrong with those people? How is that even possible?

I expected this guy to run off but I’m kinda disappointed I didn’t get to see his face as he watched the vote totals in the California 49th

Exactly my first thought
Fuckers don’t want a level playing field because they know they’ll lose
What Darrell your Republican policies are unpopular . Imagine that

A HUGE GOTV effort by Democrats will help counter low turnout.

Eh, I don’t think it’s cowardice so much as a recognition of the political reality that there’s a blue tsunami coming. Like so many others, he’s getting out while the gettin’s good.

Fun fact: While dozens of Republicans are retiring, not one Democrat has announced retirement. That says a lot about where this is going.

One down, two (Rohrabacher, Nunes) to go.

Right you are, plucky. I may be fuzzy on details but I don’t recall Dems jumping ship at this rate in 2010 when the Koch/ALEC fueled TeaTools were rising as the result of the Dems supporting the ACA.

Seriously. If they can do everything they can to protect their crime family, the least they can do is face the music when the public wises up.

Issa was just a petty thief, in the final analysis - apparent conspirators to aid a foreign power will be even sweeter takedown.

I was trying not to get too optimistic about November, but I’m becoming a believer in the great Blue Wave! It’s really a thing!

Buh bye, Issa. Won’t miss ya.
