Here are my thoughts on why he quit:

He went to the crazy well one time too often.

It was all a doublepump fake to pull out the worst GOP candidates possible. His work here is done.

He got up and looked in the mirror and saw those empty eyes staring back at him.

This is the year the GOP tires of the crazies and tries to get rid of them. Murdoch’s boys reign in Ailes at Fox; Trump ups the ante among candidates, cutting out the genuine crazies and the ones who can’t play it professionally; Palin is regulated to talking about Trump to any media outlet that will listen and not report on her family problems; Bachman has faded into whatever.

Don’t think it will matter in the least. The crazy has metastasized.

Have I forgotten any attempts to reign in the crazy before 2016?
