I disagree. Sure, it won’t hurt him with his fervently ignorant supporters, but as of today he isn’t close to having the nomination wrapped up yet. There are 15 winner-take-all primaries between March 15 and June 7 that have 802 delegates at stake, and if this is just one of a number of stories that undercut his attractiveness to more than just the fervent Trumpette base, that base may not be enough to get over the hump.

The entire Trump candidacy is a phenomenon without equal in Presidential politics in our history, and for that reason it’s unpredictable in the extreme, with huge amounts of inherent volatility precisely because of the nature of Trump himself.

It even starts to hurt him with his supporters, in my opinion. Not an overnight “gotcha” type thing, but there are a number of stories, including this one, that put holes into one of his biggest “assets”…that he “tells it like it is”.

Repeated stories and the inevitable backtracking reveals that he doesn’t tell it like it is…he lies when it best suits him. That sort of thing has an attritional effect on the very core that draws people towards him.
