āHamletingā is a good word to coin here. Because the role of Hamlet is about ACTING. Which is what this entire piece from politico is. Its Ryan/his staff ACTING like Ryan is having emotional turmoil. When in reality, Ryan is just trying to navigate a political difficult time so he can have his cake and eat it too. And the only thing emerging is that Ryan is actually not a very competent politician.
People that have jumped the Trumptantic are outā¦they cannot go back. Those who continue to support him have a rapidly closing window to jump ship too. People like Ryan are thoroughly screwed, they can never distance themselves from Trump after publicly playing this āwill I or wonāt Iā game repeatedly. He made his choice, there is no option to change it laterā¦live with it.

Despite winning the second debate in a landslide (every poll), it is hard to do well when Paul Ryan and others give zero support!
However, he seems to have grown fond of Dems.
With the exception of cheating Bernie out of the nom the Dems have always proven to be far more loyal to each other than the Republicans!

Agree with your take. Ryan may be trying, but the flip side of it is he just doesnāt know what to do and all he has now is posturing and buying time when time is running out.
The reality is he canāt have his cake and eat it too, when nearly 70% of the GOP base think the R congressional candidates should continue to support Trump while 20+% of them find Trump not acceptable anymore (per NBC/WSJ). He canāt afford to alienate either one of the groups. His posturing is untenable.
