Discussion for article #247125
Just for fun, Obama should pull a Cheney and announce he’s interviewing himself.
While I hope (and fully expect) Obama to fulfill his constitutional duty, I feel bad for whoever he nominates. No matter who it is, they will face a political clusterfuck of epic proportions.
The best I can hope for is that they stay above the fray, let the GOP eat itself, and then angle for a renomination under the new Democratic president.
I just hope this does not take a eminently qualified candidate out of the running.
I’d pay money to watch the Sri Srinivasan hearings. The smartest, nicest guy you’ll ever meet, from Kansas, against Koch-adled middle-listers, whose best quality is that their names look unremarkable on suburban yard-signs.
Pay-per-view is the way to go there. Ka-Ching.
These are highly qualified individuals. The SCOTUS would be enhanced with any one of them. And the games will continue and the GOP will sabotage anyone, so what can we do?
Please proceed, Senators.
They will proceed with a “no, hell, no.” This is SO frustrating. I believe they will do ANYTHING to dishonor our President and our Country. It’s getting absolutely intolerable. Is everyone as frustrated with these people as I am?
Everyone is. That’s why their machinations will end up hurting them.
Their brand is in flames and they keep pouring gas on it.
Please… someone in their 40s or early 50s. Thanks. (So not Garland.) We need them on the court a loooooong time.
Keep the candidates coming and the burdizzoes at the ready…
I believe in the interest of balance the next Associate Justice should be neither Catholic nor Jewish. Younger would be better than older. Srinivasin if he is nominated and treated poorly will lock up the burgeoning South Asian community as a Democratic constituency for generations to come. The South Asians are a potent force in Northern Virginia, just ask President George Allen.
Dear GOP,
It’s always an election year.
You’ll never, ever have one of your nominees confirmed again. Ever.
Sincerely,
Karma, The Bitch
The dead-ender teabaggers approve of it, but nobody else does.
The problem with dead ends, teabaggers, is that at the end, you’re fucking dead.
NPR reported that Srinivasan, Garland and Watford top the list,
aw, too bad. I was really starting to think of Jane Kelly as my favorite.
Obama nominating 3 women to the Supreme court would be so awesome! And the fact that she sounds like a great candidate, and was from Iowa just to stick it to Grassley.
Well the intimidation to stay out of “piñata” contention was the entire point of Cornyn’s statement yesterday right? All these judges being interviewed are eminently qualified and safe on their benches so I’m hoping that none of them would remove themselves from consideration just because they are afraid of facing the “political clusterfuck”. I’m assuming that most of the nominees would stay in the process precisely because the GOP is acting so constitutionally contrary. They are professional jurists after all.
Yep. It’s ALL about dishonoring Obama. If Scalia was resurrected and Obama nominated HIM, the idiots in the Senate would reject. That’s how stupid they are.
I suspect any nominee going into this, knows what they are getting themselves into.
Any candidate must be ready to have their formerly impeccable reputation among republicans savaged as if they were evil incarnate. This is about the worst community wide behavior I can recall ever committed by the majority in the senate. Ever. What will they do when a democrat is elected? By a fucking landslide no less? Complain that it’s the democrats that made 'em do it?
What hearings? The GOPers won’t hold them.
