Discussion: Report: NBA Suspends Clippers Owner Donald Sterling Indefinitely

Discussion for article #222162

Actually, Adam Silver has BANNED Sterling from any association with the Clippers, OR the NBA, for LIFE.

He also fined Sterling 2.5 million, the maximum allowable under the NBA bylaws.

Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. Seeya asshole.

Edit: TPM has since updated their story.

get it right please before reporting - Banned for life not indefinitely

I am so heartened right now. No matter how often these horrid, disgusting racist incidents flare up, there are always those like Mr. Silver who give me hope. We can argue all day long that NBA should’ve done something sooner, that the NBA didn’t have a choice. Whatever, they ultimately went for the death penalty and the harshest punishment they could met out. Good on ya, NBA!

Shit, does this mean the LA NAACP’S reconsideration of its disgraceful lifetime achievement award for the uber-bigot is permanent?

NBA - “Take that Sterling - you have to sell and make a $750 million profit on this team you bought for $15 mill!”

Not that I’m unhappy seeing this douche get his comeuppance, but to force him into selling the team? I’m not so sure this can stand, but I have no idea what the NBA’s bylaws say in this regard. I’m sure he’ll fight and this will drag on until he finally kicks the bucket.

They could have revoked their franchise, removed the Clips from the NBA or relegated them to the D-League…that would have forced the minority-stake owners of the club into ousting him on their own.

Magic Johnson’s named mentioned about a half-dozen times already…I can see the NBA angling to get him in as the owner of the Clippers.

The league owners can remove another owner on a 3/4ths vote of the ownership as a whole.

Wow. An 80 year old man has been banned from NBA activities for life. What’s he going to do with the half dozen or so years he may have left?

Probably wallow in his money, buy some more escort-level girlfriends, and forbid them from hanging out with black men.

Assuming his past actions are any indicator, that is.

Well, that settles that…Thanks.

Donald Sterling, the owner of the Los Angeles Clippers, has been suspended for life by the National Basketball Association, NBA commissioner Adam Silver announced Tuesday.

What does this mean? He cannot attend games? Hang out in the locker room? The article does not say what happened other than that he was fined $2.5 million which is chump change to Sterling.

Yeah MLDB, that’s the ugly part of the deal, that Sterling will still make out like a bandit.

Same as what happened with LA’s other scumbag owner, Frank McCourt, who was forced out of the Dodgers and pocketed two billion dollars.

What was the alternative? I doubt a guy like Sterling really gives a shit about money anymore. He’s a billionaire who spends his time chasing young women and pretending he’s 23. Since you can’t take away his money, there’s nothing worse you can do to a guy like that than to make him a irrelevant, take away his crown, and thoroughly shame him. Now he’s just another rich old dude in LA. A dime a dozen.

Darr, I watched the press conference live. He’s been banned from anything to do with the team or the NBA – Can’t go on Clippers property, cannot attend any games, cannot exercise any functions whatsoever in the front office of the team, etc.

He is stripped of everything and banned from everything.

No, not the ladies…all the blame will be foisted on Obama. Limbaugh has already begun that meme. Not that it makes any sense at all.

Can’t wait for the conservative media to sink its teeth into this. Silver. Hmm. What’s the ethnicity of that name?? Also ongoing quibble: front page headline says he is forced to sell team; article says Silver will recommend that.
