Sounds like there was a conspiracy afoot to do an end run around the existing Sanctions against the Putin Regime and the individuals sanctioned, since the Congress was probably not going to provide Sanctions Relief.
I take “under scrutiny” as “Mueller already got this.”
We are in an unprecedented territory with a very small margin of error his team needs to be extremely careful to navigate. That can slow things down. But he’s got this and everything now.

I sense a quickening in the pace of the investigation. I suspect Mueller wants to have all the charges rolled out before fall so he doesn’t step on the midterms.
It does feel like Mueller is just as hyped for Infrastructure Week as the rest of us.
Every time I read, “The GOP needs to call out Trump,” I just want to scream, ”THEY’RE IN ON IT!!!”
The Founders never anticipated:
- A combination of Gerrymandering and voter suppression to moot elections.
- An Electoral College acting as a religious cult to enthrone the GOP version of Benedict Arnold.
- A criminal conspiracy among Constitutional officers to lock impeachment in the Capitol basement.
The Republican majority is not going to use NRA-laundered rubles to buy rope for their own hanging.
Only Mueller and/or a Democratic Congress are going to cuff the Child Snatcher.
And drag him – along with Ryan and McConnell – kicking and screaming from the levers of power.

Oddly, if we’d had more would-be populist nutbags earlier in our history, this might have saved us from Trump. The Electoral College as an institution was never really used for its intended purpose as a check on the idiot masses, and so it was just sort of put in the attic and forgotten.
