Discussion: Report: Major Dem Lobbyist A Mueller Target For Work Connected To Manafort

Good. Leave no stone unturned. If he’s an innocent bystander, so much the better.

And if he’s got even remotely dirty hands, then I hope he gets what’s coming to him no less than Manafort or Trump.

Right! Does this not fully prove that it was, in fact, “Crooked Hillary” who got the Russians to help Drumph, just to make him look like a Russian Agent. False Flag! Liberal Media Bias! Kneeling Football Players! MUSLIMS!!!

All this means is that “Har har har the Dems wished a special counsel on Trump and now it’s backfiring on them and proving they’re the ones who colluded with the Russians and are all going to jail.”

Of those 6 other firms referenced in the article, I suspect that Tad Devine’s firm is one of them. Although I have no evidence that Devine was involved in spreading Russian Active Measures, I have little doubt that he instantly recognized what was buttressing Bernie’s online activism in the first half of 2016, and passively leveraged it to keep the gravy train running (Devine, as you may recall, made an obscene amount of money from Bernie’s $27 contributions).

I also think this lobbying group set up by Manafort might be a money laundering operation. It had an Orwellian name, similar to the Karl Rove dubbed initiatives like “Clear Skies” (i.e., let’s pollute the air) or 'Healthy Forest" (i.e., let’s burn down the trees). I think that’s partly what Mueller is looking at. The FARA stuff is a useful way to ID other potential crimes, like money laundering, and perhaps corruption/bribery schemes (going to US politicians and the other way to foreign gov’t officials (US foreign corrupt practices act… a law for which Trump has specifically expressed disdain).

This org’s mission was about building closer ties between Ukraine and the EU, which is the exact opposite of what Putin, Manafort and Yanukovych wanted: they tried to keep EU influence out of Ukraine and tie Ukraine closer to Russia by allowing Russian oligarchs to bilk their state assets (among other things)). This ‘To EU or not to EU’ is what led to the uprising that ousted Yanukovych.

It looks like a lot of money was funneled through the Ukraine Party of Regions and its offshoots, ECFMU being one of them. I don’t think all of it was clean.

And let’s be honest here: the only correct conclusion from any of this is just how much money in politics has become a national security issue.

If you can’t see your way to that reduction, then you haven’t been paying attention.

Shit man, don’t give them any ideas! :hammer::horse:

I think it’s simpler than the commenters above suggest: Lie down with dogs, get up with fleas.

Or, you are one of five Supreme Court Justices.

Oh well, there’s always one in every family…

I’ll leave it to Mueller’s Holistic Detective Agency to figure it out.

“The Podesta Group was founded by Tony and his brother John, though John — who went on to become Clinton’s campaign chair — is no longer affiliated with the firm and is not part of Mueller’s investigation, NBC News reported.”

Pretty significant factoid that the conservative media and blogosphere are conveniently leaving out.

Which just proves they don’t really believe the Mueller probe is a hoax

Criminal prosecutions can be brought under FARA for a willful failure to register lobbying work for a foreign agent; however, those prosecutions are exceedingly rare.

I can see exercising leniency and discretion in imposing penalties for FARA violations. However, if you are black and failing to signal a lane change we're gonna have to shoot you.

I suspect you are correct. It was the first thing that came to mind when I saw this news item. Nor was it just the Ukraine; Devine has had his hands in some very questionable international elections including places like Bolivia and Honduras, both candidates he worked for ending up in exile.

That is undoubtedly clear. The Russian bot armies were attacking Hillary and targeting Bernie supporters during the primaries.

There is also the question of Sanders’ campaign financial reporting. Bernie was the #1 violator of FEC rules, piling up hundreds of violations every month of his campaign, including many repeat offenders (it was a way for Sanders to get cash flow…the FEC demands they return money to donor X, Sanders does, and then cashes a new check for donor X the next month). Then, near the end of his campaign, he received a $10 million donation from a single address in D.C. The campaign claimed it was an aggregate of $30 donations all received on the same day…but that would have meant that roughly half of D.C. donated $30 to Sanders on the same day. Instead of clarifying this however, Sanders refused to even file his final FEC disclosure forms, citing that the campaign was no longer an entity…and then promptly buying his 3rd home for a cool half a million.

The Sanders campaign money, and in particular highly questionable items like the $10 million, are of import because Devine was by far the highest paid staffer/consultant working on any campaign in 2016.

That was a straw purchase, for Susan Sarandon.

And with this story, Rightwingers everywhere have suddenly fallen in love with Robert Mueller.
