I don’t much like Kelly, nor do I have much respect for him any more. But I appreciate this decision.
I think Kelly is just jealous of all of Clarke’s medals. /s
Every time I hear about Kelly costing another off-the-rails asshole a job I wonder: How many death threats from “the base” does he get daily? He’s probably got a special in-box just for them.
No doubt.
And let’s not even start with the obvious “hat envy.”
Kelly seems to have enough sense (other failings notwithstanding) to know a fool when he sees one - and to keep him away from the biggest fool.
I don’t get why all these people fired or shut aside by Trump remain loyal to him-- Bannon, Lewandowski, Gorka, this guy. I gather they all blame Kelly, but surely they realize that Trump had to go along with shoving them out.
But I guess that’s what a passle of bullies are like-- craven when they’re not cruel.
I’ve heard of Work Spouses.â€
Apparently Kelly is Trump’s Work Mom:
“Donald, I don’t want you hanging around with that Clarke boy*. I don’t like his friends, he’s a bad influence. You’re going to get A Reputation.”
*For some reason everyone at the White House refers to Clarke as “boy”. Maybe it’s like Eric being a " great kid"…

Fighting a losing battle, but maybe he can reduce US casualties.
Aw, Davey pouting on Sean Insanity’s show cause he had to give up his uniform.
No matter what hat you put on Davey, still makes him look like a fool!
Yeah, it’s crazy when we actually have to praise someone just for having an iota of common sense. It’s actually the least he could do.
I mean, in what world is Clarke qualified for a WH position…other than Trump world?
And Gen. Clark did all that without needing a goofy Charlie Danial’s hat.
When you open the door to Clarke, you leave a gap for Gorka to slip back in…
Why would a superPAC hire a guy like Clarke?
On Kelly keeping Clarke out of the WH, chiefs of staff make personnel decisions all the time. It’s part of the job and hasn’t been considered newsworthy until the Trump administration.

Kelly doesn’t much like that Clarke fellow. There’s only room enough for ONE macho man in the White House.
And the macho man that’s there sure-as-hell ain’t the President.
Clarke would have been a disaster so it is fantastic news that he never had any federal power.
I still don’t think a triumverate of generals checking the president is the correct way to run a democratic republic.
Trump wanted him, Kelly denied it, Trump ceded some presidential power to a general. He is a weak man who is continually sabotaging our institutions.
Trump: I was actually impressed by Kelly’s stance, it showed that he is racist at heart. He is a good fit in my administration.
@left_in_washington_state I’d forgotten just how ridiculous he looks in this photo - he can’t even get the damned things pinned on straight. Seriously David? A kittycat? A slice of (OMG) watermelon??! His former “constituents” are well-rid of this buffoon. I can see why Kelly wanted nothing to do with him. A Cub Scout who couldn’t do a better job with his uniform should be ashamed.
But we still don’t have the answer as to why Clarke abruptly quit his job.
For a creature so enamored with perceptions of power like Clarke clearly is, quitting job as sheriff, to become another lackey raising money, seems like an extremely odd choice.
This smells an awful lot like someone trying to walk before they make him run. And if so, its quite possible that Kelly has been stonewalling him to prevent that inevitable blowup from happening while in the Trump administration.
Just a notion.
