Not that I disagree, but wow. Never saw that coming.
This should keep John Hinckley from ever walking out of prison again, if you’re looking for a silver lining.
Nor did I. I suspect someone (his family perhaps?) was probably pushing for that sort of ruling.
And I have no problem with trying Hinkley for murder and keeping him behind bars.
Damn… I mean, I get it, but… totally unexpected.
Well call me stunned and pleased. Now watch the NRA wacko-doodles get their panties in a twist over this decision.
Homicide maybe, but I thought the law said the victim had to die within a year of an injury for it to count as murder.
I probably just saw that in a Perry Mason episode.
Wow that is heavy to say the least.Never heard of this as it seems the posters here are in the same frame of mind.
Carries a “LOT” of implications for say similar cases that didn’t get the notoriety,IMHO.
This is very surprising to me. For sure it would set a legal precedent considering Brady isn’t the only case.
Something tells me this option won’t be considered for Larry Flynt
This was a great man who had a tragic thing happen to him.
But murder? This smells personal to me. Somebody’s getting some payback.
Hinckley’s a sick twist who shot Reagan to impress Jodie Foster to whom he declared his love just before he acted. It’s very difficult to read but in it he said this which could be consider prophetic now.
There is definitely a possibility that I will be killed in my attempt to get Reagan. It is for this very reason that I am writing you this letter now.

No, that used to be the law. Then as treatment of trauma improved, there were a few really upsetting cases where a wounded person never emerged from intensive care, but death didn’t come until a few days after one year. There was no question what the victim died of, yet because the law said “one year,” the assailant couldn’t be charged with murder.
The law changed.
And here I was thinking he was just old. For all we know from the death actuaries, he may have lived longer after being shot.
In any case he was responsible for some great strides to reduce rampant gun violence without impacting anyone’s 2nd Amendment hunting / sporting rights.
We need about 400 more of his kind in Congress.
Huh? Hinckley spends a lot of time out of prison. He has a GPS monitoring device, but he frequently gets to spend week-long visits with his family in Virginia.
It seems this is not uniform across every state. California is cited as having a three years and a day rule. Don’t know about DC.
And WHO caN forGET JFA???
LibTAARDS!!!11!1!1!one!!!11!
James Brady had spent just 69 days as press secretary before he was shot. So many possibilities unfulfilled
Seems like a stretch. When’s the last time someone was tried for murder after the victim dies 33 years later? Besides, wouldn’t this fall under double jeopardy? Hinkley has already been tried and found not guilty by reason of insanity.
I certainly don’t fault the family for trying seek justice, but not sure this will work.
