Discussion: Report: Health Care Providers Could Lose $1.7 Trillion In Revenue With ACA Repeal

That is a staggering loss, but I’ve no doubts that Republicans will insist these are made up numbers and plunge ahead into the abyss.

Then they should object, and tell the GOP in no uncertain terms that they will lose their jobs in 2018.

Isn’t it interesting that the Republicans are hell-bent on repealing the Affordable Care Act no matter who it hurts and how much it cost, all because they cannot stand the idea that America’s first black President will leave a legacy of success for millions of people. Their racism knows no bounds.

I just watched Bill O’Reilly segue from “them black folks is all getting violent against the whites” to " there’s a civility problem in this country."

I think I need to go to the ER…

Jeeze, a trillion here and a trillion there, pretty soon you’re talking real money.

All kidding aside, I could see the Republican failure to offer an adequate alternative here ushering in single payer, which is what we all need and deserve.

But of course it’s made up. It’s the URBAN Institute. You do know what “Urban” means, don’t you?

Pubbies have really uncorked a really big pile of manure and some of them probably realize it but they can’t stop what they have campaigned on doing since Obama signed the ACA Bill in 2010. The Pubbie base is thoroughly brainwashed on Obamacare and don’t care about the outcome as long as they hear the word “repeal.”

Ryan: We must make up this loss of revenue to these corporations by giving them $2 trillion. Obamacare has killed them and they need the money.

Even before Citizens United, this was a “follow the money” town, and the money is in the form of the lobbyists who essentially drafted the ACA. Those same lobbyists are most going to have marching orders from their clients to keep this money flowing to the very insurance companies which have profited from the ACA. Ryan, uncle Turkey-Neck from KY and their buds may not like the Act, but it’s making too many people in the health insurance industry (and their shareholders) too much money to simply allow it to be repealed. I further doubt that the majority party has any interest at all in providing better health coverage or care, at a lower cost.

I could be wrong, but I sure hope I’m not EDIT: (about the lobbying - not about the better care at lower cost, which I’m all for!)

The financial reality of this for the insurance companies should push them to fight against any changes. This talk of ‘replacement’ is pandering to the GOP when it is in the business interests of these companies and the entire health services industry to just say no. Repeal of Obamacare would kill people and likely put us on a path to recession. Repeal would be as dumb an idea as was invading Iraq as a response to 9-11. But America looked stupid in the eye 15 years ago and embraced it, so America is quite capable of dong it again. This is exactly the type of incompetence that one expects from a DT administration.

Heath insurers are still losing money on the ACA. Their incentive to stay in the Obamacare marketplace is the expectation that eventually it will stabilize, their actuarial estimates will come into line with the insured pool and that they’ll begin to make good money. That has already gone out the door, and they’ll mostly abandon the exchanges next year because of it.

No, the people losing all that money are the providers: hospitals, clinics, physician practices, pharmaceutical and medical equipment companies–all the people doing the billing, not the ones paying the bills.

Of course. Same reason they appointed Ben Carson to HUD. When someone says "Department of Housing and Urban Development, Republicans hear “Department of Negro Affairs.”

I think Bill O needs to go to the ER to have his head removed from his ass.

And that’s just from losing my policy.

Its not race: its because he’s Dem.

The report found that insurer and household spending on hospital and physician care would drop by $59.1 billion and $20 billion respectively in 2019 alone

Hospitals and providers employ a lot of people.

In addition to the cost in human health and lives, repealing the ACA is sure to kick off a recession, further impacting people’s mental and physical health.

While I agree that there have been some losses, which has caused several carriers from leaving non-profitable sections of states, I have been reading lately (fake news?) that this year’s increases were meant to stabilize the rates under the ACA.

Health care is worse than buying a car…what’s the real cost of a doctor’s visit, or lab work for that matter? The EOB is never clear…is it the negotiated rate or the billed rate? It’s all smoke and freaking mirrors.
