And thus the once-proud GOP continues to crumble into ashes.

Umā€¦if you want to be a man of principle, Iā€™d go somewhere other than Congress.

Just what we guessed, these clowns are all talk, no walk. They are just children pitching a fit, engaging in the media equivalent of throwing themselves down in the Capitol Rotunda and screamingā€¦ ā€œlook at me!!!ā€

Boehnerā€™s cocktail never tasted so good to him as it does now.

its good to know at least one Republican has one principleā€¦ even if it is the ā€˜old man yells at cloudā€™ principleā€¦

Rep. Daniel Webster (R-FL), the conservative lawmaker the House Freedom Caucus endorsed ahead of Thursday's GOP speaker nomination conference, told his colleagues at a closed door meeting Thursday morning that he would not commit his support to the eventual GOP nominee for speaker, Politico reported.

I thought Daniel Webster died in 1852.

Thereā€™d really be no better outcome in all of this (except, of course, Pelosi somehow becoming Speaker) than for Boehner to be forced to remain Speaker through the end of the year because the GOP canā€™t get to 218.

So heā€™s a republican in name only?

Oh, they walk, if you adapt a generous definition of the term. But they definitely are going to fold when they start getting hints about their likely committee assignments if they botch up the selection process. At most, they get one protest vote, then will be expected to fall in line.

But, seriously, freedom caucus, Rep. Webster? That says ā€œserious about governingā€ like wearing a two-can beer hat would say ā€œserious about auditioning for the role of James Bondā€.

Edit: waiting for the TPM commenter (sorry, forgot which one) who will know at a glance which episode the gif is from.

Thatā€™s not Webster. Thatā€™s Jason Chaffetz!

yep that him ā€¦ heā€™s all they could dig up that would agree with them

even though i did, be advised that the previous Webster wouldnā€™t likely stay in the modern day GOP.

Anonymous sources in the meeting told Politico Webster said his stance was out of ā€œpersonal principle,ā€ however other members of the caucus have said they would support Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) if he became the nominee.

McCarthy is considered the top contender in Thursdayā€™s closed-door nomination contest, which is only among Republicans. However, if the eventual nominee cannot get enough of the conservatives to support him for the full House vote later this month ā€“ where 218 votes are needed ā€“ it could set the stage for a protracted leadership fight.

We have watched the GOP go from crazy to batshitcrazy over the last couple of decades. I hope these RWNJs really overplay their hand this time. It can only be good for the Democratsā€“who we can only hope donā€™t snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Not surprising. These Far Right Republican anarchists donā€™t support any federal government. Why would they support one of its leaders unless he was owned and operated by the Koch Brothers?

The Far Right wonā€™t even support those in their own caucus. Just call them Confederates because that what the GOP has becomeā€¦until a storm dumps 2 feet of rain on their state in a Global Warming incident. Then they want all the federal money they can getā€¦pronto.

I really donā€™t see how the GOP can keep the government open now with McCarthy pulling out of the vote. Republicans donā€™t agree on anything except chaos. Their so called ā€œresponsibleā€ ones either quit or back down like cowards to the Far Rightā€™s ideological bullies that they have allowed to go on a rampage within their party.

Congressional Republicans have become the best argument for never sending any Republicans to Washington ever again. There is no reason to keep this political party alive except to set up a fascist regime with that Cuban Canadian in charge.
