Indeed boys and girls, moms and dads,
This is the real “Red Scare”
Coupled with what that guy said on 60 minutes last night about Facebook
Ya we’re fucked

So when is Congress going to do something about this interference? Do they really care more about protecting Trump and themselves than about protecting our democratic processes?

Oh wait…

Google has discovered that Russian operatives spent “tens of thousands of dollars” on advertising associated with its products and services, the Washington Post reported on Sunday [October 8].

… Google’s internal investigation [showed] that the operatives who bought the ads “aimed to spread disinformation across Google’s many products, which include YouTube, as well as advertising associated with Google search, Gmail, and the company’s DoubleClick ad network.”

Google told the Washington Post in September that it had “seen no evidence this type of ad campaign was run on our platforms.”

I’m no tech guru, but it seems as though when you actually look for evidence of planting fake ads and fake news stories, it’s not that hard to find. That should lead to ideas of what to do in the future.

use these recurring instances of russian money being spent on US political advertising to encourage public funding of elections, this goes way beyond citizen’s united, or force ALL advertising funding sources to be explicitly detailed on the advertisement or some such rot

Ain’t it amazing a year after the election all of sudden all these websites realize they did business with the Russians. All these guys knew where the money was coming from

What’s sad is that the typical reaction from Trump supporters if they hear about any of this is to scoff at the idea that advertisements or Facebook could possibly have influenced anyone. They made up their own minds. It’s only the other side that gets brainwashed by propaganda, while they get real news from their friends on Facebook. So they ignore the liberal BS at the NY Times and get all their news from hilarious memes that insult liberals for being mean hypocrites, which must be true because they’re so funny. They’re not even partisan, as much as they just hate the stupid liberal elitist hypocrites who supposedly insult them constantly and are the real reason America sucks for small town folks.

And it’s as if we’re to imagine that every political campaign and advertiser is an idiot for even bothering, since everyone receives all their opinions by osmosis and instantly knows in their guts when something is right. No, sir. These people aren’t herd animals at all. The fact that they jump every time Republicans say boo just proves how scary the world is and why we should forget whatever happened five minutes ago and only focus on the big scary thing that’s in front of us right now. And somehow, it’s always a Democrat’s fault.

Trump: It only proves that my dear dear friend Putin is very very smart. I wouldnt be here without him. He will continue his great work as long as I am POTUS, which will be forever.

It took them this long?

Maybe they should have asked, “Alexa, find me Russian ads on Google.”

Not Swiss?

Google’s search engine was the main weapon that the Russian trolls used. Google’s ads were a secondary resource. Typical strategy:

  • Invent a fake news story, Hillary took bribes from Qatar while serving as SoS, for example
  • Create a dozen websites that look like news sources and put a scoop into each of them – Hillary Bombshell!!! She accepted bribes from Qatar while serving as SoS
  • Take out lowest-priced google ads for one or more of these websites
  • Innundate FB with posts saying Hillary took bribes from Qatar while serving as SoS. Respond to each person who calls that out as nonsense, urging them to google it

Because they’ve prepped google to deliver results for this query, FB visitors will be presented with apparent news stories that – for at least some – will lead to them doubting Hillary’s integrity.

The connecting point here seems to be that all the bot farms, Facebook circle jerks and Google ads purpose was to cast aspersions and doubts about Hillary Clinton. As with the MSM none of these disinformation sources were set up to question the policies and history of trump, just character assassination of Clinton to the point that liberal friends were believing the “Hillary is corrupt” meme and many friends who are trained professional thinkers were blindly going along with the circular disinformation on the Sanders Facebook pages that we now know were infiltrated by the Russian/Macedonian bots. Black men pretending to be BLM members set up influential websites that did nothing but denigrate Clinton so that blacks would believe that she hated black youth and either not vote or vote for trump. Americans are so susceptible to anger and hatred. Why is that? We have it all. If you are a white, middle class, middle aged man in America you have had more opportunity to advance yourself and achieve your goals than any generation ever yet millions fall for the idea they are being picked on and displaced. Right wing media does most of the Anger/Fear heavy work but this past election showed that fake news comes at us from the left, right and center and Americans cannot or will not struggle to separate the wheat from the chaff. Question everything and especially what you read on Facebook.

This is a group that collects and manipulates server farms full of data, that can tell you what rubbers you bought at the pharmacy and they just "found " this information…an army of programmers and analysts just ran across this info? They either think we are stupid, or if we buy this, we are stupid.
