Caving on fiscal austerity for Trump just validates the refusal of it under Obama as racist and not political.

8 years of roads, bridges, schools and power infrastructure collapsing seems to have been convincing as well.

Ah yes of course .
Rule #1 with Republican control of the White House , and Congress
Deficits don’t matter.
They will tax cut and spend us in to a financial abyss …until the next Democratic control
The Dems will then be tasked to fix it
Wash , Rinse , Repeat

Republicans in Congress accepting deficit spending during a Republican administration?

That’s never happened before…

It was certainly racist. But it was also political in the sense that nothing proposed by Democrats can possibly have any merit.

“Reagan said deficits don’t matter. This is our due”.
Dick Cheney, 2002 after the GOP reclaimed the Senate.
Deficit spending is the spoils of victory when Republicans win the majority.
Deficits are an existential threat when Democrats win the majority.
Trump will create the biggest deficit in history if allowed to.

but Trump won their voters on a policy that reached beyond that.

He stimulated the RACISM and the REVENGE so strongly they were two shakes away from burning crosses inside the stadiums. The GOP now knows that it really doesn’t matter how much of a naked grift the “infrastructure” deal is. When bridges are still falling apart and taxes are skyrocketing, the people will allow it to happen provided a scapegoat can be found.

The FC might also be willing to use this against Rump once the economy starts to crash and burn. Which it certainly will.

The borrowing is easily offset by “economic growth” when you use dynamic scoring and Ryanesque projections of GDP growth. Magic asterisks and unicorns solve all problems in the world where the empire creates its own reality.

According to several members, there has been informal talk of accepting a bill that’s only 50 percent paid for, with the rest of the borrowing being offset down the road by “economic growth.”

So there prepared to make 500 million dollar cuts in the safety net and speculate that the remainder will be recovered by the “resulting economic growth” of which they dont know or will make any attempt to measure the success of…

Well there’s 500 million being taken from many who need it most and a 1 trilllion give away to a small circle of contractors who are doing fine…yup

I think you’re right on both counts. Republicans have sucked since Clinton Derangement Syndrome started in the 90s. But racism over the last 8 years fed into it as well, that’s inescapable.

That’s the value of a Trump University Ph.D. in macroeconomics.

Trump: Of Course. I ran on it. Govt needs to serve only Whites and keep me in power, borrowing from China at the same time.

Business as usual…Republicans only care about deficits when it’s a Democrat in charge who wants to spend money on people besides the wealthy Republican donor class and businesses.

I’ll refrain from holding my breath waiting for the media to shout about the Republican hypocrisy, and the huge budget deficits we are about to have.
