Absolutely true that an awful person can get smeared. But, if the showing pictures is true, I personally think that does constitute “abuse”.
Fifty years ago I worked for a local company that manufactured building materials. My boss was a three-martini-lunch guy who treated the women in the office (I was one of them) like bad little girls. But the men in the office were the ones who were abused – he insisted daily on showing them nude pictures of his wife. I can tell you, all these young guys went through contortions to not be around when he decided to pull out his wallet and have them admire the Mrs. They were not amused, but knew that declining to participate meant they would be fired, and everyone needed the job. I’m pretty sure we didn’t actually have any laws against his behavior at the time.
The network was started by Roger Ailes. There are no “standards of behavior”.
We are a hate-filled, paranoid, untrusting, book-dumb and bilious people whose chief source of recreation is slinging insults and threats at each other online, and we’re that way in large part because of the hyper-divisive media environment he (Roger Ailes) discovered.
I recall that story too, Trump showing up at Jr.'s college dorm room to pick him up and slapping him in the face because he was hungover and not ready to leave on time. Horrifying.
I dunno. “Harassment” seems to carry a connotation of targeting vulnerable persons, e.g. making use of power differentials or trying to establish them. “Misconduct” can mean anything inappropriate even if it’s done in total cluelessness. I guess my first thought seeing the headline was, what did she do that wasn’t harassing a coworker, since they didn’t use that word? Showing dick picks makes perfect sense. So would getting naked on the office couch with Don Jr. Sorry for the image.
That’s the one. Also because he wasn’t wearing a jacket and tie to go out for dinner. The roommate (I think he was) published this to raise red flags on Trump’s character. Apparently being a maniac is a feature not a bug for Trump supporters.
Since Trump is still a maniac and has not changed or attempted to make amends to Jr., Jr really should have distanced himself. But as @sparrowhawk pointed out a little earlier, he has shown no willingness to do so. Instead, he has strong loyalty to his father, which is consistent with ‘Stockholm syndrome’ At some point he needs to find it in himself to pull the plug on the relationship. Mueller could help with this!
It’d be hard to imagine this shy retiring woman would be capable of such blatant sexual harassment. Who would have thought she could do such things. On a Getty floor no less.
You know, you can’t always tell personality from appearance, I’ve learned that much over the years, but she looks awful, she acts awful, and by all the evidence she’s considered awful by a nest of awful people unlike many others. I can certainly imagine her doing this crass, vulgar thing and thinking nobody’d mind because everyone’s as awful as she is. That’s what they do, these people, they assume everyone else is putting on an act if they try to keep it classy. Ugh!
Me too. It was forwarding from a dirty joke email list, but yeah. She stopped.
On the other hand she was the one most clueless about the need to do anything when I went to her because one of the people she supervised had (accidentally) left pornographic pictures on my computer desktop. I ended up going to HR and he was gone the same day, but she was really unhappy I’d “done that to him”. It had gotten to the point where I said I go or he goes, and I was indispensable and he was essentially work-study.
Thing is, I know for a fact she was in one of the most insanely harassing positions ever in her other job; her sense of what was acceptable in the workplace was pretty skewed by that. She broke a lot of barriers but part of that was putting up with an amazing amount of shit. So I imagine that the Fox workplace would warp many people’s senses of propriety.
At some point, though, you just have to say, this isn’t acceptable, even if it’s normal.
Gah. She looks like an escapee from one of those movies with sexy aliens that seduce you and then turn into monsters and kill you. Like she’s going to turn into a giant parasitic eel-looking thing at any moment.
As much as it’s gotten me in trouble today to spread the blame around a little, I suspect part of the weirdness here is an art director wanting to do something a little “provocative.”
I absolutely can hear it. That’s why I say, if she was imposing this crap on people under her at work – and it seems she was, doubt she was sharing the pix with Greta von Susteren – it’s malicious and abusive.
God. Back in the day I had a girlfriend or two like that (no pictures then, before cellphones, so just the hideous – and always self glorifying – blow by blows). It was bad enough being a captive audience with them, but can you imagine if your paycheck was riding on it?
Junior was a mess at school, drank to excess, would pass out in his clothes and pee in his pants and came to be called Diaper Don. Senior did in in fact knock him around when he found him drunk, hauled him out of the room, screaming all the while.
