This feels like a very unsophisticated foreign money grab.

Trump doesn’t care. There are 5 layers of campaign organization between him and fundraising efforts. They could find a check made out to his re-election committee with Putins signature on it for a million dollars and Trump isn’t getting fingered with a crime. Come to think of it, he could murder someone and isn’t getting fingered for it, either. For Donnie this is just another “Meh” among many.
That’s the thing, this story doesn’t read like 5 layers. This reads like, Chinese nationals came to Mar a Lago, paid a fee, paid an extra fee which Yang then deposited into Trump campaign accounts after his team members got a few happy endings at her establishments.
