This is apparently a matter of concern among the staff. He’s getting his information (such as he gets) from Faux Noise instead of his daily intelligence brief; and, he is entirely focused on his personal image/popularity.
I don’t understand why they are concerned: this is precisely how he behaved during the campaign and the transition. What ever made them think he would change now?

They can declare what they want, but no one much cares what the White House says these days. Plus, I don’t think the courts would have intervened over someone denied boarding in Egypt or Turkey. But once they set foot on US soil, the courts are forced to act.
Or Donald and the two Steves really are just incompetent.

You’re right: with a sane administration nothing good would be gained through the use of brute force.
But Rump’s regime believes they can gain compliance through martial law and general destabilization. Don’t know so much if it’s Rump but Bannon most assuredly wants to be able to show that they are in control. Control can only be attained through making people afraid of both outside forces but also domestic policing that will not tolerate demonstrations.
This creates fear of speaking out and creates chaos.

But his meetings now begin at 9 a.m., earlier than they used to, which significantly curtails his television time. Still, Mr. Trump, who does not read books, is able to end his evenings with plenty of television.
A president who does not read books. Think of it. He’s informed by social media and TV. He’s replaced a constitutional law professor who wrote books including one I’m rereading because it’s consoling, Dreams From My Father.

We knew that over a year ago. How do you drive a casino into bankruptcy, for fuck’s sake? A casino is a license to print money for the owners, and Trump bankrupted three of them through his mismanagement.
But he’s not Hillary Clinton: he’s a got a dick, even if he needs to have a necktie hanging down at it so interested parties can find it.

The fact that Kelly hasn’t resigned tells me that, either he’s stupid enough to think he can work with Trump and temper the latter’s bad judgement; or, he’s an opportunist that wants a piece of the power pie.

I believe the chaotic roll-out was a feature, not a bug. Inflicting fear and uncertainty on innocent Muslim travelers, including green card holders, provoking camera-grabbing demonstrations and emergency legal battles – all part of the plan. All designed to get the message out to the Trumpian base, loud and clear: “Muslims not welcome, no matter who they are, and we don’t care who is offended.”
